Gruhn Guitars moved to 2120 8th Ave South quite a while ago. That yellow headed paper with the little guitar playing critter was from 1991, six or seven years after I got the lap steel with the Supro pickup from George. I think that was the original logo and notepaper from when the store opened at its first location on 111 4th Ave North. The 410 Broadway store was probably the most well known and was a beautiful place. My brother, Alan's photographic studio was directly opposite Gruhn's on the other side of Broadway. It's all a long time ago now, but I still have great memories from those times, like seeing Bukka White's Style O on the counter in 1979.

My 1931 Triolian came from the Broadway shop. In Nashville and just had to visit Gruhn Guitars. One and half hours later came out as the proud custodian of an original good condition Triolian. Excellent shop, people and location. Sad that they had to move - sign of the times, I s'pose.

The new Gruhn store looks like any other guitar store anywhere in the world, whereas 410 Broadway was a beautiful and unique set up with George and Dennis assessing, buying and selling guitars. That was a whole different thing. The 1956 Oahu 'Symphony In White' lap steel with the Supro pickup was a gift from George when I was there in 1985. That's why I still like this logo and notepaper. It's proper Gruhn branding! Shine On Michael

When Dave did the heart/pickup transplant from the lapsteel to the Kingcaster the body and case remained unloved in the workshop, I acquired the case for another lapsteel that needed a home, I still have the case and since then acquired a lap steel the spit of your original, I will put my neck on the line and say the best conditioned one in the UK.

Lee Lee, I am pleased that you have the case. I often wondered what happened to it. I don't remember why I left the guitar and case behind. I guess it was the millennium bug that made us all go weird. Such is life! Back in 1985 mine was virtually mint, but it got played and gigged and travelled a lot in those intervening 15 years. The pickup has lived on and for the past 23/24 years has been played probably tens of thousands of times. Shine On Michael

I gave up and ordered two replacement magnets from Lollar! It might be good to find someone who will experiment with the old magnets 🧲. Pete

I gave up and ordered two replacement magnets from Lollar! That is a good idea. What did it cost you to buy and import them? Shine On Michael

I had one of the lollar valco pickups in a Godin coodercaster a few guitars back, very good indeed and assuming they are the same magnets you will not be disappointed. Lee Michael here is your old case (the grey one) the creme contains my oahu and your case houses one of an old batch of unfinished Hofner lapsteels that I am slowly assembling
