Too many guitar players use only major chords in open D: we can do way more, as we can play (almost) any chord in any tuning : so let' s go with MINOR, Sus2, Sus4, augmented, 6th, ... chords and, last but not least, the complete scale harmonization!
Of course, "nil novi sub sole", everything is well know by many of us, but I found useful (for beginners) to gather that material, in an unpretentious YT file...

Hello Serge,
Welcome to our forum.
Your post about chords in open tunings is as you say "nothing new under the sun", and while your post might be of interest to some, I doubt there is anyone on this forum that believes only major chords can be played in open E (EBEG#BE) tuning. So I can only assume that with just 17 subscribers on your Youtube channel, that you have joined this forum to attract subscribers. While it is not a commercial venture and therefore is not breaking any forum rules, you are treating the membership of this forum that has taken 18 years to build, like we are ducks in a barrel.
I find this sentence "Too many guitar players use only major chords in open D: they're wrong" ...... somewhat offensive and pretentious. They are not wrong, it is their choice to play only major chords in that tuning, if they wanted to play minor or any other type of chords, I am sure they would do so.
I think you might have been greeted with more warmth if you had started your first post by saying hello, telling us a little about yourself and the reason you have joined our community. Then maybe later in the conversation telling us that you have a Youtube channel and need subscribers.
....at no extra charge, that is how your first post on this forum makes me react.

Dear Sir, Well, I didn't really expect such a welcome...
As a retired physicist, with a very decent pension, I don't need any money, and have NOTHING to sell. As a just decent bar-grade musician, I know that worldwide fame is not for me; from time to time, I play gigs in small venues, for a hefty 100 €/session (for gas, strings and amp tubes!). I give free lessons to beginners (mostly retired ppl) in an association next to my french home, and discovered that open D tuning was a very convenient way to start playing guitar: in many cases, ppl want to play pop songs including more than the basic (I,IV and V) chords. Beside that, I attend many concerts and gigs, where I see that too many slide players play only primitive chords, moving their slide like a brick along the neck. So I took a fairly nice amount of time to build that slideshow. You know the way YT works: if you want to be a star, you'd better promote make-up advices, sneakers, or lectures on flat Earth ... So I said to myself, that forum looks serious about music and reso guitars, some members might find my work useful. No hidden reasons, as I don't care, at all, about my YT subscribers number!
If you still think my motivation is unwholesome, just remove my post, and cancel my registration, I don't care, my nights won't be troubled... With best regards, SC
ps : your reaction for the "no extra charge" statement shows how much Frogs and Brits may differ, when it comes to humour: what is "offensive" when you don't charge ANYTHING, for what you present to viewers ?

Serge,
What you say about some slide players does have some truth. Slide playing is a technique that on the surface appears to be an easy and fast route to being able to play, whereas it is actually quite the opposite. After more than 40 years of playing slide I can assure any newcomers that it is not easy. Your comment also brings out something that can happen to people looking for a shortcut to playing music with open tunings, with or without a slide, and that is the lack of understanding about the scales they are playing in, so the straight bar across the strings is only ever playing major chords even if they should be playing in a blues scale for example. So while you are in essence right about what you are saying, I can tell you that with 20 years experience of teaching slide to hundreds of people, that your approach is wrong.
My comments were not based on the content of yesterday's post, just that with no introduction or explanation about who you are and why you posted your video, it looked like you were only interested in gathering some new followers, which after your explanation this morning I can see you are not. This forum is a serious music community and we do get pounced on quite regularly by people trying to sell us stuff and by people that just want access to our members.
Please do not go into anything about the differences between our countries. People are people and some of my dearest and closest friends are from your side of the channel. With the current state of our world, any such comment is abrasive to me.
You are more than welcome to continue posting on this forum and to be a member of our community. Your lack of any type of interaction when you joined led me to see you just like many people using social media and being impersonal about it. Many of us on here are friends and therefore this is a real community and not just another version of social media.
