I am working up a version of When the Saints Go Marching In, trying to add a few more upbeat songs to my repertoire.
Can anyone recommend any good bottleneck versions to check out?
Blind Willie Davis and Fred McDowell are my two favourite versions so far.
Bonus track - Papa Lightfoot on harp.

That album, released in 1975, Yazoo 1046 Voice of the Blues, played an important role in so many people's musical development. A wonderful compilation. The Jimmie Davis song, She's a Hum Dum Dinger From Dingersville, is on my first album.
The Fred & Annie McDowell album is also an extraordinary piece of work. I have the 1966 LP called My Home is in the Delta, which I guess is collectable these days.
If there is such a thing, the definitive version of this song has to be by Louis Armstrong. Covered by almost every trad jazz band in the world, it is Louis Armstrong's many versions that everybody copies.
Phew.... there's a lot of them!

Thanks Michael, there are some good versions there.
I was binge watching Treme for a few weeks and that must have put the song into my head. It appeared a few times, although early on in the series they were making fun of tourist for requesting it as it is too cliché in NOLA.
There was a version I liked with different lyrics further into the series, I will have to find it.
Changing the lyrics would help freshen it up.

There's a lot of recordings of this song, that's for sure. It will always be associated with New Orleans. I had not heard of Treme until now, it looks interesting. Shine On Michael

I only came across Treme last month when someone recommended it to me.
I think it is a show made for music lovers, done by the same people who made The Wire.
Has cameos from Steve Earle, Elvis Costello, Fats Domino, Dr John and lots of others that I wouldn't recognise.
I assumed it must have come up on the forum before, maybe it is one of those shows that fly under the radar.

Steve Earle and Spider from the Pogues. He's a really good guy. Shine On Michael

I love that song, particularly Fred's and he did a couple of versions. Also love Joe Callicott's. Here's a couple of them I like classic vintage country blues

I had forgotten about these. I love that Furry Lewis album, I haven’t heard it for many years.

Here's a couple of them I like classic Thanks Harriet, I am not sure how I managed to miss the Furry Lewis version. It is such a simple song and the more versions I listen to the more I appreciate it. It is also really fun to song and play.
