So under stringing a tricone to achieve a better break angle is not a good thing?

It's a stop gap fix. Don't do it!

It's a very bad thing to do because it pulls too much downward pressure and can/will damage the cones.
You don't need a steeper break angle. Shallow is better. However, without seeing the break angle we are just making assumptions.
Wait until you have the guitar and then let's go from there.

Will it void the warranty! ( that was a joke). What harm can be wreaked by this simple act? Please somebody with a good working knowledge on the mechanics let me know.
Best,
Malcolm

I should have added that under stringing pulls the downward pressure unevenly and therefore causes damage. It is a quick-fix trick that dealers sometimes do to sell a guitar that requires a neck reset, but it's a stupid thing to do because they might be causing permanent damage to the cones. It also pulls on the tailpiece in the wrong direction. It's all bad!

Michael, Thank you once again for your advice. The guitar is due here in a few hours and if it is under strung I will reverse the strings so they are on top.
Best Regards,
Malcolm

Be aware that taking all the strings off a reso at the same time can cause it's own problems. Before you do anything post some pics on the forum, seeing is probably the only way to get good advice.

Malcolm, is this the Beltona tricone you were posting about on another thread? If so I would say you had some legitimate questions to ask. Unless of course you've already asked them and were happy with the answers. Eyes wide open mate, I don't imagine this guitar is coming to you on the cheap! Once again, understringing NO!
Best wishes to you all, John

Best Regards, Malcolm My advice would be not to do anything, just photograph it and show us on here. Do not remove all the strings, just wait until we have had a chance to see and discuss your guitar. I may not respond tomorrow as it's a busy one for me, but I will on Friday. Shine On Michael
