Would like to have seen that! But being a Portobello boy anything involving a tent scares the bijibers out of me! π€ππΈπ

That was the last Festival I went to ! Had a great weekend. I seem to remember: The Delta Blues Cartel not turning up, getting Van Morrison instead, Nina SImone locking herself in a toilet and Johnny Winter coming on stage to apologise that he'd slipped a disc and couldn't play.

Davey, That pretty much sums it up! Having said that, it was a great festival. Nina Simone, sadly it wasn't her finest hour. I watched most of Nina's show sitting with Peter Green, who was lovely to be with. Johnny Winter's health was not good at all and I think he ended up in the local hospital.
I am glad to have been a part of it.

I bumped into Peter Green, who was trying to get through the audience carrying a Guitar and amp in search of the stage. Lovely gentle chap. The crowd was so thin you could watch every act from 20 feet away. Van Morrison was good natured and did a great Bluesy set & Courtney Pine was super powerful. I saw your set, Michael and also the workshop which was terrific. Not forgetting Taj Mahal who's always good value.

Not that I remember, John, but we stayed in a nice Hotel nearby so didn't have to do the mud and portaloo thing anyway.

Hi Davey, I think as the years have gone by I have met or communicated with almost everyone that was there! I didn't do a workshop at Bishopstock. I had forgotten about this until now but the only slide guitar workshop I know of that happened was held by Sam Mitchell on behalf of the newly formed European Blues Association. Other workshops that weekend were held by Diz Watson and Sam Kelly. I think Johnny Mars may have done one as well. Courtney Pine's band did a great set straight after mine, but they were warming up behind us backstage during our set and didn't realise that my drummer and bass player were struggling because they could hear them. Courtney was extremely embarrassed and apologetic when I told him what had happened. Festivals can often be hard gigs because of such goings on. Shine On Michael.

You did an informal "Meet the musician" in a Gazebo in the maker's field next to my friends, Luthiers Colin Kendall and Steve Jones, who were showing their Dobros. It wasn't a big event but we were all pleased to meet you anyway and pick your brains about slide matters.

Davey, I am really embarrassed to admit that I have absolutely no recollection of that at all. It was a hectic weekend and behind the scenes there were serious financial problems being faced by the organisers. So word was spreading backstage that some artists were not being paid. Luckily I was paid my correct fee and on time. In addition to that, the owner of the record company I was signed to spent the whole weekend absolutely rat-arsed drunk and I was not too happy that his laminated AAA pass had my name on it! So as well as it being an amazing success for me, there were a few things going on in my head. I am pleased the little workshop was good and that you enjoyed it. Shine On Michael

Hi Michael. Perhaps you could reimagine it thus: After finishing your barnstorming set in front of a rapturous crowd, you were carried shoulder high over to where you gave a marvellous workshop inspiring many youngsters to take up slide guitar! ππππΈ Everything above is true, but not necessarily in that order (Morecambe and Wise)!
Best wishes to you all, John
