Hello all, I just bought Beltona Triplate # 015 from 12th Fret in Toronto. Waiting for it to arrive. They replaced the cones with National cones and the owner of the store stated that the original cones were no longer sounding good due to fatigue. Does this sound right? Should National cones fit correctly?

I'd ask him to send you the original cones with the guitar so's you can make your own mind up. My 1931 Triolian still has its orignal cone which, if anything is going to be fatigued, that will be. Unless the Beltona is in reality a very early DH Comet...

Yes, the proverbial Comet. I think they scraped the original cones. I asked and got a vague response. Thank you for the quick response.

Should National cones fit correctly? Hello Beltona MKid Welcome to our forum. I know the people that run the 12th Fret in Toronto. It is an excellent store, they know their stuff and they are really good people. The Beltona cones were probably fine, but as they no longer exist, you will be fine with the National cones. A new set of cones will need time to bed in and settle, but just keep playing and that will happen. I have a question for you. I noticed you are posting and you are not a registered forum member. How did you do that? In 18 years of hosting this forum that has not happened before. Shine On Michael

I have a couple of Beltonas, both single and tricone and am very happy with the tone, timbre and volume of the original cones, who knows the story of your purchase and what may have happened over the years, mine have been cossetted and could pass as nearly new, a little side note the tricones have Beltona embossed/stamped in them I have been looking for pictures but not opening the guitar up to get some I am afraid. The hotrods are great cones so you should not be disappointed as matched with the Beltona build quality which are 1st class, NRP were still playing catch up when these were made. Lee

Thank you all for the thoughtful and kind responses to my questions. I registered this morning as MoHairBluesboy but I received an email that it was awaiting approval from the admin. It would let me post as a guest, so out popped The Beltona Kid which I now prefer to the former MoHair. Please change my screen name to The Beltona Kid( 63 years worth of kidding around). One last question. What is the scale length on the Beltona Triplate? Best, Malcolm

It was my fault. When I set up the new board I didn't set the permissions correctly.

Hi there !
Beltona Tricone cones, in the Beltona Tricone I owned, before selling to Lee (gingergeezer) shown below.
I bought this guitar directly from Steve Evans (of Beltona) a few years earlier. He had taken it from the original owner to do a new set-up and “TLC”, before selling for the owner. I don’t know if the “TLC” included new Beltona cones or not - SO, I can’t be sure if these cones are 1980’s cones original to the guitar, or more recent replacement Beltona cones.
Did original/early Beltona cones have the Beltona name embossed into every cone ?
Doh ! I don’t think I can post my iphone photos when in the MM website, when on my iphone (I don’t see an icon to attach photos !). Would be great if that feature could be added in future. Most photos I take are on my mob phone these days !

Yes that is also stamped on my cones from about 95 or so, Great guitars, people who have not come across them think it is all National, the story is when Slide and Pickett opened in Worcester and ?"£$%^ was asked which was his favourite National he said the Beltonas.....

Hello Snakehips,
Thank you for the great picks of the Beltona cones. Beautiful stamping and workmanship on these. Too bad the shop I bought this guitar from felt the need to change these out. If anybody ever comes across a set, let me know.
Does anyone know what scale length is used on the Triplate?
I played my only National Tricone reissue at McCabes Music in Los Angeles back 20 years ago and they had a Pogreba hanging next to it. Needless to say, the Pogreba was light and Hot and totally blew the National away in every respect. This time around I had to decide between a new Pogreba at Music Villa in Bozeman Montana and the Beltona, both sight un seen. The Beltona was less money with a better resale value and I am a traditionalist with regard to guitars. I know the Pogreba would have sounded great. I read many of your reviews and comments here regarding the Beltona Triplate; heard it on EC's 94 album and Gary Moores tribute to Greeny( may his Holiness rest in Peace). Should be arriving by post this week. Promised Ian at Diamond to make my first Youtube vid using one of his fine slides.
Best
