Finding the right size spanner can be a pain, these old ‘bumb-bell’ bike spanners with the middle bar cut out make the perfect tool. A normal spanner can over tighten and is often too big to use . They come in metric and imperial , so you might need 2. I’ve had these for years and very rarely need a spanner (or the dreaded pliers) when working on a guitar. Pete

Only someone who can see potential in a kitchen sink would think of that. Excellent tip Pete which I shall forthwith take on board.
I'm now relying on your left brain approach to come up with a solution to the decorative circular knurled nuts as found on (eg, some) Gibsons? (And the like.)

The tapered steel tube slides over the hard plastic pipe, so this will fit most switch sizes Then I googled ‘Gibson Switch tool’ and StewMac do make one for $20. Most published reviews are positive, though one or two say the steel jaws marked their nuts, shouldn’t be a problem with my plastic version Pete
