The documentary gives a good insight to the festival and the 20+ acts that were performing.
I was hoping for a bit more from my favourites, Bukka, Furry and Fred. Surely there must be plenty more footage from the festival stashed away somewhere.

I found what purports to be the original poster on flickr, so the lineup changed. Son Thomas, Piano Red and the Salem Harmizers were not originally listed and the poster is barely legible so this is what I pulled off it. A couple of names were illegible to me. Johnny Woods appears briefly, walking on stage at some point, which I have yet to find again. No clue as to whether McDowell and Woods actually performed or if the performance was filmed.
On the page at flickr where the poster was I went back and found the performers which I overlooked (my bad) and in the comments that Albert King and Slim Harpo were great, Canned Heat cancelled due to ome of the and's wive's being in an accident. www.flickr.com/photos/51992558@N00/5497129925/in/photostream/LEFT SIDE: Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, Backwards Sam Firth, Bukka White, Carla and Rufus Thomas, Insect Trust, Fred McDowell & Johnny Woods, Nathan Beauregard Sun Smith and the Beale Street Five, Elder Lonnie McIntorech*, Sleepy John Estes Blues Band, Lum Guffin ^ Elder Lonnie McIntorsh at discogs : www.discogs.com/artist/1147246-Lonnie-McIntorshRIGHT SIDE: The World Greatest Jazz Band, Albert King, The Bar-Kays with Toni Mason, Jo Ann Kelly, Furry Lewis, Slim Harpo, Rev. Lonnie Mackintosh (Mack)? ...what the 'Elder' is about, I can't hazard a guess.
Moloch - recorded 'Same Old Blues' in 1970?
Wild Child Butler - harp player and vocalist?

I just hope I'm correct - I've been reading Robert Gordon and Preston Lauterbach books about Memphis recently.

It's a beautiful film featuring many great artists that are no longer with us. I especially enjoyed Jo-Ann Kelly and Bukka White's performances, they were both on top form.

Jo-Ann was 23 in 1969. Bless her.
I would have been happy to have the job as sun-umbrella holder for the weekend!
Shine On Michael.

There is a wonderful double LP that was issued at the time of the festival in 1969 and included performers from the 1969 festival. The surprise for me was the 3 tunes at the end by R.L. Watson & Josiah Jones. I found out many years later that they were actually Bill Barth & John Fahey. Here is the discogs listing for that album: www.discogs.com/Various-Memphis-Swamp-Jam/master/813115Two tunes from the album are available on youtube:

There is a photograph of Marcia Hare holding the umbrella over Furry Lewis, at what I think is this festival, in Robert Gordon's "It Came From Memphis". She was featured in a couple of beautiful photographs by William Eggleston in the early-mid 70s, and I think used to perform with Mud Boy and the Neutrons occasionally.
