Thanks Martyn and Jack, it was a lot of fun and interesting for me too. I don't often think about my past in such detail, and much of what we covered has never been public knowledge. The difficult thing when doing an interview like this is to get the chronology right and not to miss out too much. I realise now that I missed out great chunks that were and are important. Such is life! This series of podcast interviews that you guys are doing is a wonderful thing. Shine On Michael

It would be impossible to get it all down and we already doubled what other people get.
I think it will give people a tremendous sense of ‘the man behind the music’ and perhaps you should start writing a book?!

I stumble accross Michael one Saturday night when Ted Hawkins plays the South Hill park theatre, as I think he had been on GLR or some Radio 2 show back when they played the stuff I liked, I could not work out what this guy was doing at the time standing next to what looked like an ironing board with some sort of electric guitar, well as I now know it was Michael playing his Supro lap steel and I would visit south Hill park many times seeing Michael and Ed or a full band on the terrace, great times & Great music, it makes me wonder what is playing back at the old venue and may have the chance to pop in there in a day or so, so will let you all know if there is anything up our street.
Thanks Martyn and Jack for creating the digital archive as it was over 30 years when I first saw Michael and it goes pretty quickly.

That's beautiful and I remember the evening, not like it was yesterday, but certainly very well. I also remember you turning at so many gigs back then. It's a long time ago. Here's a photo of me playing the Oahu ironing board. This wasn't with Ted Hawkins, it was with the MM Band at the wonderful, now considered seminal, Mean Fiddler, Harlesden, in 1988 or 89. I used to go wild on that thing! It was usually plugged into my 1970s Mark 1 Mesa Boogie with everything turned up to eleven. You can just make it out in the background. That was such a great amp. Also in that photo is Ed Genis playing his Tokai Telecaster, which was a very nice guitar. The pickup from that lap steel has been in my Dave King Telecaster since 2000. Shine On Michael

And the pealoid Oahu body which Dave threw on the scrapheap I think lives on as a Frankenstein steel in Reading with Mike The plasterer.

We’ll be sharing other resonator people’s stories too over the coming seasons. We’ve got some great stuff already recorded and some top flight folks lined up. 🎯

I like the “student model” uke on your wall Michael. Well Jell :-) Mike Lewis made that for me in 1993, maybe 1994. It is a perfect baby 1133 and it sounds great. Shine On Michael.
