I just purchased a used MM 12 resonator and it was fitted with D'addario 12-53 strings. I'd like to go up one more step to a 13 gauge. I did order the MM resonator Newtone strings in 13-56, but they haven't arrived yet, so I ordered a set of Thomastik Infeld plectrums, which I love on my acoustic guitar because they are a great low tension string. The 13 gauge Thomastik strings I ordered for my MM blues, run 13, 16, 25, 34, 47, 61. My question is, is the 61 going to be too much for the low E string even though it is a very low tension string and i also tune down half step? I don't want to risk any damage to the bridge piece by using a gauge or will it be ok? Thoughts?

Hi bloozeman. You've got yourself a nice guitar there mate. Can't comment on the Thoman strings you've ordered but I would recommend you wait for the MM's. Remember one string at a time and don't trim the ends until the strings are up to pitch. Lots of advice if you search the forum.
Best wishes to you all, John

I think those gauges are not right for yours or any guitar. I don’t like the 13 to 61, looks unbalanced to me.
That guitar will sound best, IMHO, with 13 17 26w 36 46 56. If you are going to play mostly in open G and open D tunings, I would use a 15 on the top, so it would be 15 17 26w 36 46 56
Even fitting a heavy bottom string I would not go more than 59, but you’re better off using the set I have suggested
I hope that’s helpful
