Great to see Ian and the WB Resonators chatting, though I usually play with a heavy brass slide I do bring out one of his big glass ones on special occasions. Pete

It is an excellent interview, but it does contain some chronological and one or two factual errors that Ian and I have discussed. It is really difficult being interviewed on the subject of one's whole life, because some details get confused and some get overlooked. In the interview I have done with Martyn and Jack I missed out a few very important times in my career and like Ian, I got some dates wrong. When being asked to talk your way through 65 years in one sitting, the earlier stuff tends to be more focused and detailed than the later periods. That is certainly what happened to me and I have been interviewed hundreds of times.
All that said, it is a very good interview and shows Ian's amazing passion and his dedication. Long may he continue to provide the world of slide with his beautiful work.

Thanks chaps!!
Had a great chat with Michael about the interview (now looking forward to Michael's!) and it's quite correct ~ once the interview is done & dusted you sit back and think "why did I say that?!?" π
To put the timeline correct in regards to the 'Ultimate' hand-blown crystal slides, I met Kevin Brown at the Sheehan Guitar Show at Leicester Racecourse back in the early 2000's and showed him one of our 'Redhouse' bottleneck slides ~ he liked it and asked if they could be made of hand-blown glass? On my return I asked my cohort Brett if it was indeed possible, but he was very reluctant to go down that route due to the issues we'd have finding the right guys to create the tubes.
Fast-forward a couple of years & Michael was working on a project for a fellow who had many contacts ~ one being a London-based glass-blower! He commissioned a batch of beautiful hand-blown Venetian glass slides, gifting Michael with a couple and, on Michael's recommendation, supplying the London Resonator Centre with a number of these beauties.
The L.R.C. already stocked our 'Redhouse' bottlenecks & on one of my London trips tried a couple of these hand-blown Venetian glass slides. At that time, unknown to me, Ron Smith had unsuccessfully tried to replenish his stock of the Venetian glass slides and later questioned if we could possibly provide him with hand-blown glass slides as replacements....we eventually found our man to supply the quality tubes in the required quantities - and the rest as they say is history!
Glad you enjoyed the interview and a big thanks again to Martyn & Jack for the opportunity...and, as I suppose everyone who listens to themselves on film always questions....do I REALLY sound like that when I speak?!?! ππππ
Slide On!

Hi Ian !
Do you remember that opaque white and translucent yellow, widely tapered slide I got from you - circa at least 15yrs ago. My favourite and really unusual (I dropped & smashed it years back, unfortunately !). That was weird - it had a sort of rough surface yet - donβt remember if that was on the inside or outside but it played great BUT the texture was weird.
That slide was special and ACE !!

The only slides I have are two Ultimate, and I never ever felt the need for anything else. Well, I also have a steel slide I rarely happen to use for some special noisy effects. But those Ultimate...wow...they fit perfectly and they sound so smooth! Always thankful to Ian! Frank

I DO remember that stripey banana slide you had ~ as I mentioned on my previous posting above, this was a classic example of my cohort Brett's reluctance at that time to inquire about regularly ordering tubes from glass-makers.....a guy made us a dozen sample slide tubes (yours being one of those) - and when we asked for more, he refused to be "shackled to any type of conveyor-belt supply" π² ...we've seen some amazing slide tubes come & go over the decades - long may it continue!!
