We’re back after a year of lockdowns!
A weekend of guitar and slide guitar tuition - plus jam sessions, student performances, great company and a special Saturday night concert.
This is a weekend for anyone interested in playing acoustic guitar and slide guitar in blues and roots styles. All levels are welcome. Acoustic instruments only.
Learn from two of the finest guitarists in the UK
Robbie McIntosh will be teaching guitar and slide guitar.
Robbie McIntosh is one of the finest guitarists of his, or any generation and has legendary status among his fellow musicians. Chris Rea said…“There’s Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Robbie McIntosh” Robbie McIntosh’s career to date includes working with Sir Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, Sir Tom Jones, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Paul Carrack and many more great artists. Robbie has played many of the world’s top festivals and venues, as well as numerous TV and radio appearances. As a long-term member of The Pretenders, Robbie played at Live Aid in 1985 and on their hit record, Don’t Get Me Wrong. More recently, Robbie played guitar on the movie soundtrack “Rocketman” and in March 2020 played at the O2 Music for the Marsden charity concert with Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Sir Tom Jones, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Paul Young and many others. In addition to playing guitar for so many well known artists, Robbie takes his own special blend of music on the road with The Robbie McIntosh Band and has just released a new album “Seaworld”.
Michael Messer will be teaching slide guitar and lap steel guitar.
Michael Messer’s reputation as a virtuoso slide guitarist, singer and blues innovator, are well known. Throughout his forty year career, Michael’s music has remained individual and contemporary. His stunning slide guitar playing and superb vocals ooze authenticity and integrity, and his use of turntables in the Second Mind Band marked him as one of the trailblazers of the 21st century blues sound. Johnny Cash wrote the liner notes for Michael’s 1993 collaboration album with Terry Clarke and Jesse Taylor, “Rhythm Oil”. Michael's “King Guitar” album reached number one in the US Living Blues chart, and “Second Mind” won Best International Guitar Album of the Year. His current band, Michael Messer's Mitra, is once again breaking new ground playing an exhilarating fusion of rural blues & Hindustani classical music. Their highly acclaimed album, “Call of the Blues” was iTunes #1 blues album and World Music Network #1 album. To date, Michael Messer has released ten albums, toured worldwide, recorded numerous live radio/TV sessions and appeared in his own ‘Blues' episode of BBC TV show, Zingzillas. He also has successful lines of MM Guitars and MM Strings.
In addition and by request, Robbie & Michael will hold a class together on the subject of performance and playing in a duo.
