I own a white 1133 with the short scale neck.....my question to you guys ...I’m thinking of having a custom neck/ full scale made for it,has anyone ever done this. I’m thinking because it’s a bolt on it would be feasible, and I’d have the original neck if I chose to sell. Reason I’m thinking this is because I hooked it up with a National slimline pickup and it sounded incredible to say the least. Any thoughts appreciated... thanks in advance..

sounds like this may be a dollar intensive project. beyond the large thick neck, seem to recall seeing a dissected neck with a structural shaped metal truss rod built in to hold up to large diameter strings stretched to exotic tunings. extra scale length could compound the problem.
sounds very interesting. please keep us updated as it comes together.
sure many other owners beside myself here will have more than a casual interest.
may take some digging, but find thread here dedicated to these guits.
endeavor to persevere, mitchfit

Sounds like how National came up with their long-neck Resolectric...betcha Resolectric neck would work.

Sounds like how National came up with their long-neck Resolectric...betcha Resolectric neck would work. Probably, but I much prefer my funky little short scale 1133 having had a resolectric. Completely different sounding and feeling guitars.

Thanks to all who responded, I honestly appreciate it. Love this forum and glad to be a part of it, your quality people. Where I live there is literally a world class luthier who will build me a neck for about 300 Canadian dollars....just wondering about fret radius etc, but he still needs to see it to see what can be done.

if you plan for slide use only, fret radius doesn't matter. if you want to use it for chording choose a neck of desired scale you like for luthier to model from.
if you want an either/or guit, find one that suits both styles to your satisfaction for a model.
we all have different tastes, but itself haven't had much luck finding a compromise i'm happy with.
realize that means less than zero for >your< use.
either way, keep the info coming. mine has a very high OEM nut that is near useless for someone without popeye class forearms. have considered having it shaved down can't bring myself to doing so, regardless of re$ale considerations.
swapping necks might be a viable alternative.

PD, is yours an in between height you're happy with for both styles?

PD, is yours an in between height you're happy with for both styles? Yup Mitch, that is the case. ...there is a but - I'm using monel 12s tuned either to Vastapol E or Spanish G, any tighter then the spinach is picked from the garden, boiled for 3 minutes and served under a poached egg with sea salted crisps (chips for you 'Muricans) on the side washed down with tea, no milk or sugar.

tried a similar ploy with a set of D'addario wound G EXL110 strings. wound them up tight to various tunings to load the cone some and it sounded more like a harpsichord than a reso. (?)
sounds like a crazy choice, but is what I had on hand and like for acoustic use also. [my neatest music store is the internet]
not sure how much was due to nickel wrap or string diameter incompatibility but can honestly report that the experiment pretty much cratered.

I would expect that if the same gauge strings were used on a new longer neck, and that guitar tuned lower so that a capo on the 2nd or 3rd fret ( this would depend on the new scale length) gave you your old scale, the guitar should sound almost the same. The extra mass of the longer neck might give more sustain? It would be an interesting thing to do. With a gauge lighter strings ( to keep the tension the same) the tone would be different, longer strings usually sound better ( to my ears) but it maybe the short strings give the 1133 it’s ‘sound’. But you could could still go back to the old strings and a capo to get the original sound ( assuming the extra wood on the neck doesn’t drastically change the tone) Pete
