Looks fantastic, congrats !!
Have you noticed any phase issue between one half of the Supro pick up and the gold foil?
On mine I chose the bass strings to be the half that was out of phase, it's an original Supro pickup which are definitely 3+3 humbucking . The remakes may not have this issue.
I had the chance to discuss this with Mr Cooder a few years back , he said " well, I just never have 'em both on at the same time".

They normally do have that issue but Mojo who supplied the pickups do a wiring harness to overcome this..

Thanks! I guess because Mojo make the pick up they can access the internal windings to do this. I'd hate to go fishing around in an old original.
As it's no longer humbucking is there any interference etc ?

Somewhere there are some posts about how to avoid the half pickup out of phase sound while retaining the original humbucking mode, but the Supro pickup would have to be converted to modern 4 wire connection. Not something I would recommend. Pete

Jono, it looks great and reminds me of my own instrument. I guess it is a Coodercaster, but that was not a word that existed when mine was made 22 years ago. I was certainly aware of Ry's guitar and was influenced by the sound Ry gets with Supro lap steel pickup, but also by Supro Ozark guitars. Mine, as you can see has a Danelectro lipstick pickup which sounds fantastic. I would never run the two pickups together because as well as weird phasing, there is no reason for me to to that. I use it with one or other of the pickups. I have used this as my main recording and touring electric guitar since I got it. It is a wonderful instrument. Enjoy yours! Shine On Michael

Michael,
That looks beautiful.
Re pickups, same here , never use the middle position. I threw mine together using a cheap Jag -ish offset body, the Supro plate had been cut down before I found it.
I should add that while answering my question (backstage at an Americanafest show we had both played) Ry cast me a look which I read as "it's not that complicated stupid !"

Bramley, That's an interesting looking instrument you have there. It looks great! As I said earlier, I wasn't really trying to make a Ry Cooder style guitar. Here's a few more pics so you can see the whole thing. The Oahu brass badge, the pickup and the volume and tone knobs came from the lap steel we used to make the guitar from. It was an instrument that I had used for quite a few years as my main lap steel. I kept the chrome pickup cover because I found it uncomfortable without it. The pickup surround has a lot of rust on it and could do with being restored. Maybe one day. I can't tell you how many hundreds of gigs and recordings I have done with this guitar. It has done a lot of travelling! They'll be another one on here soon, with a different pickup! Shine On Michael

Lovely guitars, Michael gets great tone from his, the right amp helps too. When Dave was cutting the pearloid sheet that you see he ran it through the bandsaw and next thing he knew the workshop was on fire !!! Mine was made a little while after in 2001, still has yet to leave the house aside from an exhibition or two. Lee

Lovely guitars guys! Here's mine. Still my main electric for slide playing, I love it. I have the out of phase issue with both pickups on but never play them together.

A CooderCoddler is the name I invented for what you have on your Fender amp. You have an egg coddler next to a CooderCaster.
