Cannot believe Gretsch don't offer a spares facility. Help!!!! Hi Mitch, It makes disappointing reading and writing for me too. I really could not believe Gretsch's attitude towards their customers, but sadly it's true. A good friend of mine is a Gretsch dealer and it was him that told me how they treat their customers and that they really do not carry any spares! I can't leave you with no cone, so I am going to do what Mr Gretsch should be doing and provide you with a cone. I am not doing it to get one over on Gretsch, or to make myself look good. I am really just doing it to help you out, which is what they should be doing. It's a bit of a pain shipping a cone because I have to make a box that will guarantee its safe arrival. I don't actually sell spares for guitars, I just carry a stock of spares so I can supply the people that buy MM Guitars with spares. Every time I place an order I add on a box of spares which I rarely have to use, but at least they're here if needed. Tuners, screws, coverplates, cones, biscuits, saddles, even a couple of necks that I have had for a few years. It doesn't take up much space or cost a lot in the scheme of things. It's only a drawer full of bits and pieces, Mr Gretsch! I rarely send cones in the mail because of the whole process of making a box and packing it carefully. I hope that is helpful and sorts out the problem. Shine On Michael

Please direct message me or email me and I can arrange to send you some £s (that I fully expected to give the man from Gretsch anyway!!!) and give you my postal address. Kindest regards Shine On Mitch.

I read this thread because I’m curious about how much of a difference it would make to replace the cone in my Dean. Not as much as replacing a knacked one I suspect. Is there an ‘industry standard’ size and can they be replaced by a ham fisted amateur? Will the guitar need a set up afterwards? TIA

Hi all I believe this is a fairly common question unfortunately but a student of mine has had a collapsed biscuit cone problem with a gretsch honey dipper. As many are aware these cones seem to be a unique 1”high and are thus quite a problem to source as a replacement apparently as gretsch don’t offer any spares. Has anyone come across such a sizing and if they have where? The gretsch cones are branded ampli sonic and are touted as being hand spun in Europe I’ve also read about possibly being produced by Continental although I don’t know for sure. Any help greatly appreciated Apologies if I’m covering old ground re thread. Cheers RP Hi, I do resonator specific repairs based in Ireland and have worked on a few of the Gretsch resonators, I have had great results swapping out the amplisonic cones with NRP hotrod cones in the past, the NRP cones come with there own saddle and biscuit, so rather than trying to match the exact height of the Getsch cone and attach the Gretsch biscuit, I just replace the lot and set up to suit the guitar/player. the soundwell in Gretsch guitars is spacious enough for the NRP cones although the "blank" saddle of their biscuits are the tiniest bit wide for the hole in the cover plate, so will need to be sanded down a little. Even if you do not have much experience, shaping and slotting the saddle is not a majorly difficult task, although I recommend double checking all measurements and working in increments as over doing the sanding requires a lot more work to fix than taking the tension out of the strings and popping the tail piece on and off to check your action as you go. If you are still looking for an exact replacement I should have an amplisonic cone or two laying about the workshop as I have replaced a few that were completely undamaged the owners just wanted an upgrade, however, I do advocate replacing them with NRP hotrod cones as this does have a very positive effect on the over all tone of the guitar as I find the amplisonic cones sound quite "plunky" by comparison.

Hi MM Do you still have any spare 14f necks? If so, and they are unused / spare, could I purchase one for the full cost? Thanks for any consideration. TT

TT TT, I don't have any at present because a customer broke the neck on a guitar and that has used the last of them up. I will be getting a couple or so in with the next shipment later in the year.
