Just had a mandolin in for repair by the above maker. His makers label has what looks like a reso guitar on it. A quick search produced some interesting images. Has anyone come across one of his guitars?

Hi Pete,
I know of Francesco Catania as a gypsy guitar and mandolin maker from Catania, Sicily. I have heard his named mentioned in those circles and I remember many years ago in Italy having a conversation about him with a musician/collector.
Back in 1992 I played in Catania with our band, National Gallery.

Was it one of his resonator guitars you played?

No, unless I am having a grey moment, I have never seen or heard of his resonator guitars and I am not sure that graphic is of a resonator guitar.

There are some pics on the interweb that seem to show some of his ( or at least a relation of his) guitars with cover plates. There may be nothing under them , who can tell? Pete
ps: I have tried to post them , but my technician is at work, may try later unless someone else with more computer skills ( about 87% of the population) posts first

Well done Brad! This has to be the same family and kind of does answer Pete's question, except Carmelo appears to have a logo with a harp guitar! I wonder if Mark has come across one of these while researching all this stuff? Shine On Michael

View AttachmentView AttachmentHello artgirl, Welcome to our forum and to our community. That is a beautiful guitar to start learning with. Thank you for sharing it with us along with some other guitars made by Francesco Catania. There are many experienced players on here, so if you have any questions about learning to play, or about your guitar, please feel free to ask. There's bound to be someone around that can help and advise you. The main thing about learning to play a musical instrument is to enjoy the process. The sore fingers are not much fun, but you'll soon get past that stage. Just keep doing it, practice every day, even if it is only for a few minutes. Eventually it starts to feel natural and you will be playing music. Shine On Michael
