Hi there,
Here's a little video I did playing In the Heartland by Mark Knopfler, played on the Lighting (strung with Michael Messer signature Newtones). It's recorded straight into the iPhone's mic, so the sound is far from great (should have been less lazy and use the SM57... oh well). Hope you like it!

You may have compromised with the mic ( I also compromised by listening on an iPad) but the sound is lovely. Are you in fact miming to a National you recorded earlier? The tone is spot on . Pete
Even after 50years playing I can’t get my thumb to behave as well as yours!

No miming, I promise! Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated.

Lovely!
It sounds perfect on that guitar, but what you are playing would sound beautiful on any instrument.

Lovely. And I'm like Pete- I never have nailed that walking thumb bass technique , also after 50 years!
Nice to see what can be achieved without thumb and fingers scaffolding too.

Is that in Spanish tuning?

It is. Open G with a capo on the second fret, so Open A. The tune however is in the key of E.

Thanks. I notice the root was a bit different 🤔

Mark plays a few tunes in this way, as did Lowell George. It is a very nice way of approaching open tunings.

Yeah definitely. Here he's playing what would normally be the V chord in open Spanish tuning as the I chord or "home chord". I've been mucking around using the normal shape IV chord in vestapol tuning as the root and it forces you to think outside the box a bit. It's good fun :-)
Nice playing again. I'll try and work that one out - it's very pretty.
Best Lew
