Morning all, #WARNING# Obsessive Conehead anorak validation episode ahead. I’ve fitted a strap button as you can hopefully see. I didn’t take into account the single binding and just measured the overall midpoint of the body with some digital callipers. Drilled it 😳 fitted the button, and thought no more about it. Having had another look, should l have measured halfway between the inner edge of the binding and the back of the guitar? The distance from the heel was dictated by a wooden block already fitted by Beard due to it having bolt on neck. share.icloud.com/photos/0nFA1Rklzxl_O9g4e7mUDYjHAThis machine sounds stunning by the way 😍

Hi Michael, I posted this on my phone and couldn’t seem to generate a URL, even when changing the website settings. I do prefer to see the photos in the post and not follow a link.
Regards
Chris

Chris, I have intervened, but I had to do a screenshot and save that as a jpeg because you had uploaded the photos to your private iCloud. I just saved one of the photos. The strap button looks fine there. Shine On Michael

Looks mighty fine to me Chris. I am usually keenly aware of levels and spatial separation but if you hadn't mentioned it I would not have noticed. I can't bring myself to bore holes through like that (I have history there and now I just don't!) OTOH- that just gives the game away that I'm only a bedroom noodler these last few decades!

Hi there,
Does the strap button ONLY go into the thin guitar body side, or does it also screw into a wooden block of some sort, inside ?
I'd be concerned it the screw was going through the thin side, and nothing else.

Hi Chris,
I couldn't tell from that post if you put the screw into that wooden block, or avoided it ! So, which of the two ? I'm hoping you went into the wooden block but can't imagine it comes that far around from the neck heel.

I agree with Snakehips, if there is no block the other side you may have a few problems if it pulls out or even causes a lengthways split unless you are trying to relic the guitar of course.

Where did you get the wooden button from, Chris? A few years ago I had a button installed on the heel of one of my Martins, and it's too big and looks awful. I've always regretted doing it and the one you've fitted looks much better. A button like yours might go some way towards mitigating my stupidity.
