Very sad news indeed, we've lost a gentleman of the musical community... ... I'm french, never met him in flesh, but bought him the 1929 Hula Girl Triolian (he was preferring his brass fiddle edge Dobro). I remember having a quick discussion with a nice, opened & funny guy who made one of my little dreams becomes true. Didn't knew him once again, but I felt he was moved by music and it was surely a pleasure to deal with someone like him. My thoughts to his family & friends, will play some tunes for him on this triolian tomorrow...

This is sad news - I only met him once, we met up for me to buy a guitar from him but we stopped to chat for quite a while. A nice and very thoughtful bloke. RIP.

Here's my contribution Lee, got this lovely Republic from Kris back in April. It was a guitar he used for busking apparently, as I told him at the time, I liked the guitar as much for its association with him and the fact it had a happy history.

Bonzo that is a nice guitar, I was with Chris February/march and had a quick strum on that, good fun guitar and as you say it has resonance.

Hey Lee, Martyn, all.
I was a little unsure whether to say anything as I only briefly talked to Kris via the message function about buying some CDs from him ~ thanks to that conversation I have a wonderful Black Ace album among others. From those small exchanges between us, and the posts I’ve read on here from him and you all it is clear he was a lovely man and definitely someone to look up to and learn from.
My condolences to his wife, family and friends, and Martyn I would very much be interested to come to any such event in Kris’ honour, be it as a spectator or maybe to participate in performing.
RIP mate.
Best, Lew

Sorry to hear of the passing of Chris, I spoke to him on many occasions, bought and sold guitars and stuff between us, he was always chatty, helpful and fun to talk with. RIP my friend and condolences to his family.

It was a significant day for Chris and Astrud & family as he was taken to his final resting place today, Covid restrictions put paid to his wishes for no funeral and medical donations, alas the funeral directors who knew Chris did the honours today with minimum fuss but maximum respect.around the time this took place I had a noodle on this little La Foley that Kris traded me have a short while before he passed. So sorry to hear this (and very late too).
I used to play in The Highly Strung Vest with Kris, (With Paul Moore on Washboard and, on banjo and guitar, Gary Penny) in the ‘70s and he was a huge influence on my musical taste as well as teaching me most of what I know about guitar playing. His encouragement of my fiddle playing and, later in Beavers Brass, Bass, was transformative. God bless you.

I have only just seen this- sad news. I used to bump into Chris from time to time when I lived in East Anglia, and he was always very open and willing to stop busking and have a chat to a young(ish) player with questions. I bought 3 of his CDs over a period, and still play them all from time to time.
One christmas eve, I found him busking in Diss and he took the time to show me a tuning I didn't know about, and finished his set with a song in that tuning because I'd asked about that particular track from his CD. Nice guy and fine performer, who shared some interesting thoughts and stories as well as knowledge with me, years ago now. I shall raise a glass to him this evening.

That's very nice, I am sure Chris's family appreciate it.
A few years ago I did a gig with Clive for our mutual friends, The North American Guitar. The gig was at Mossiman's Club in London. We played a couple of toons together, did our own sets and ate too much. Clive is a very nice guy and a really great player.
I never met Chris, but we did have a few interesting phone conversations, and in one of those Chris mentioned that he used to do gigs with Clive.
I don't want this to detract from the thread about Chris, but we don't often see Clive Carroll's name on here.
