Well, at least all the modern-day capos are lighter than the Hamilton Fast-Action contraptions that I grew up on - the mass on those things could make a guitar overly neck-heavy - though you could handily lodge them just above the nut when not needed..
Michael, that is of course correct, it always should go on from the bass side, evens the pressure on the strings out to, due too the distance from the capo picot point, hence is better for maintaining tuning.
