Well, after 3 years of reinforcing my nails with silk and resin I'm giving fingerpicks a try....again! Bit more hopeful this time. These ones allow a downward strum as well as upward pick. It only took 30 minutes with a dremmel and various files to get them to fit. Oh, and initial heating in a saucepan of boiling water. Let's see how it goes, they sound okay but I need to get used to them; feels like I'm wearing fingerboots. They've made me notice how important that initial fingertip skin contact on the string is immediately before the pluck. Had to shorten them way down using the dremmel to get that. Otherwise they sound horribly clacky. I've realised I've noticed something similar when my nails get too long.

Hi Rich, have you ever tried Alaska finger picks? They also go over the fingernails and enable up and down strokes without coming off. I don't use fingerpicks often and have tried many of the most popular ones and have found Alaska finger picks the one I like the most.
Best wishes to you all, John
