This might interest some.
Comeback
A peculiar, arty, documentary-type film, featuring Eric Burdon, and an appearance by Louisiana Red.
Great singing by Burdon.
The second half is filmed in Berlin, one of my favourite cities, and there is a brief appearance by LR playing a nice shiny resonator, so I gave it a go,
It's a 1982 semi-autobiographical film starring Eric Burdon, shot first in Los Angeles then in Berlin.
Cast
Eric Burdon - Rocco
Louisiana Red - Louisiana

I remember seeing this in a late night cinema in London when it was released. Everyone in the audience was as wrecked as the people on screen.
Red told me it was made at a time in his life when he was smoking a lot of weed. He spoke very well of Eric Burdon and was very fond of him. I have never met Eric, but I have always liked him and his music. I saw the Animals in 1965 at the Winter Gardens in Margate and Eric was such a great singer. I loved Black Man's Burdon when it around in the early '70s. Eric has a great spirit and a fine voice. There was a documentary made recently about his life which is an excellent film.

Sometime in the mid 80's a band of Crouch End (North London) based guitarists decided to put on a gig just for the fun of it. Since they were mainly session players they just wanted to let rip but when it was realised that they'd make around £5 each it was decided to do it for charity. The whole thing mushroomed,a larger hall was booked,t-shirts were commissioned and a lot of talented people got involved. The bass player was one Rob Burns who at the time was playing with Eric Burdon and he,unknown to us in case he didn't show, invited Eric. Anyway the gig was a roaring success and Eric did show but being a modest guy he stood at the back of the hall by the bar and no one knew to invite him on stage. A chance to hear a living legend in an intimate setting was therefore missed.DOH!

Great song on the soundtrack is 'No More Elmore', a truly fine tribute from Mr. Burdon & band. Sorry, I don't have a link to the tune...

Tried to watch it - the music and EBs singing was good but the acting and storyline was terrible imo.
Made the first 10 minutes then switched off and listened to the music on its own.

It wasn't the greatest film ever made. I tried too, but couldn't get there. I guess it was cool to watch in 1982 if you were off your head in a late night cinema, which I think I was. I was interested in the film because Louisiana Red was in it.
He played only a small part, but it was nice to see him talking and playing.
He appears in the film at 1.00.05 , 1.01.42 - 1.02.42, 1.07.05 -1.07.46, 1.08/17 - 1.10.20.
When Things Go Wrong Red/Burdon duet.
I went to the workshop with him in Maidenhead around 10 years ago and had a ticket to go to the see him and Tom Shaka at the Downtown Bluesclub in Hamburg in 2011. Unfortunately I didn't go - too many other temptations in Hamburg.

Did we meet, do I know you, did you come to our show there the night before on Saturday 18th? I miss Red, he was a dear friend. Shine On Michael

Hi Michael,
We spoke briefly when you introduced yourself, though we don't know each other. You took the beginners into one room and I stayed with the others. I had a ticket for the show, but I went to Bermondsey before the show, and got held up and very confused by rail work on the tube, got lost and arrived back too late to go.
I really enjoyed the workshop and was very impressed with Red's playing. There were no wasted notes and moments of inspiration. He was asked how he'd played certain passages, and he said he didn't know. He played from the heart. He also sang very well - despite you telling him not to sing much, so he could save his voice for the show. .
