Got lost in adverts sticking & stalling, and couldn’t get out of them. Couldn’t get further in the story than Peter Green offering to loan the guitar to Gary Moore. Even that was difficult to reach as the paragraph kept jumping about over my ipad. Gave up trying !!!
Who owns the guitar ?

PG treated that guitar like a baby.
GM wrecked it.
Now it's a bit of folklore and the youngsters forget / don't know it was all in PGs fingers.
Rant over.....

GM did not wreck this guitar. It was in the boot of his car when he had an accident. The neck of the guitar was broken but was subsequently repaired. Where it is now is another question.

Kirk Hammett of Metallica is the very proud owner of PG's Les Paul now.

When I said "GM wrecked it" I didn't mean the car accident damage, I meant the rest of it...

I played that guitar when GM owned it, 1977 ( I think) back stage at Ivanhoe's in Huddersfield when he was in Colosseum II. I already had it in my hands when GM told me where it had come from.

Yes indeed, Kirk bought it, and for a substantial amount shall we say! I have researched this guitar a lot in the past when I was modding my Les Paul (which I no longer have) with different pickups and the out of phase thing. The tone of Peter's '59 LP was legendary, but I have to agree, it was in his fingers.
What's funny is most people use 'Need Your Love So Bad' as a reference to the sound, but in fact he recorded this with a strat.

the headstock was broken 3 times (upto now)GM had large debts due to a cancelled tour and had to pay people ..he tried to sell the guitar "quietly" but the broker ( Phil Winfield) advertised it all over the place in GM's words "paraded around like a bearded lady" Phil Harris - guitar dealer from the UK was custodian of it for a while ..he did a video link below .. he explains why GM changed the knobs and tuners. eventually a dealer in Manchester became custodian and he contacted Kirk who was in UK at the time .. the 2 million quid sale price is BS ..the 1st broker tried to get that ..Kirk paid less then a million for it ..
