Perish the thought Michael. It was a late night, wine fuelled joke re mules and asses. I think PD got it though. I should have inserted this: My excuse was Black Sheep Ale as recommended by Robbie in Pocklington.

Pete Sorry can’t let a good pun go to waste, or in this case a bad one.

I laughed when you called them National cones, instead of NRP cones ! ("National cones go into Mule guitars") Thought for a minute they had a stash of vintage 1930's cones !!!!!

What is the source of this cone with the spirals going halfway up?

This looks to me like ( what I have always called) a Continental cone, so one of the best farEasten made ones. I will get one out later and post a picture. Pete It could be one spun by someone else’ and then pressed in the same press to give the spirals, there is a load of tool sharing in the Chinese Reso building community

That is a Continental cone, which since 2009 have been manufactured to my specifications.
There is only one workshop that produces these.

OK. Thanks. It is a good sounding cone. I have now several types of cones on hand...will do some tap testing with the lot to try to develop my ear for identifying cones.
