This cone is being listed with a Fender part number. Is this likely a Continental? Where can Conti cones be bought? Cost? Thanks

Hey Fred. I'm holding the Continental cone out of my Republic Hwy 61 in my and right now. It only has the spirals on it. Tere are none of the little ~1' lines along the outer perimeter. Hope that helps!

That looks like the thick gauge, cheapest cones that sound rubbish. It's like the thick foil trays you get in single-used barbecues for beaches ! It's the only reproduction cones I have seen that have radial lines. Don't waste your money !!

It’s a pity, but typical of many Far Eastern copies, the thing looks right but does not function as it should. Continental cones cones look less like National originals but work as they should. Pete

Fred, That cone is a Korean one, which is completely useless and is best used as a saucepan lid.

Useless...? but I was going to use it to drain the oil from my Vespa... Well it has a hole in the middle, so the oil will drip through, and it weighs so much you would not want to drop it on your foot. Isn't that a Clarence White / Hank Williams song.... Oh yes, that's "bucket" not "cone" Shine On Michael

Actually have me thinking if there is use for a dead, thick cone in something like a 12 string reso (that to me sound excessively brash) or in something like a resolectric where you don’t need the acoustic sound.

I’ve tried that and they still sound terrible. The only use for that cone shaped object that I can think of is as a lid for a 9.5” pot of some kind. They don’t even go flat when you jump on them! When I was at Resosummit in Nashville one year, it was close to Halloween. I bought a bag of assorted chocolates and used a similar cone as a candy dish.
Turn it over before putting the candy in.

Ozark, and nowadays Gretsch seems to use these cones, but they are also fitted with "Continental" shaped ones, and even the non spiraled version with flat top (very thick too)... Sometimes in the same instrument from the same batch, you can find any one of these different type of cones.
I have few "Continental" type of cones, from "Regal" and "recording king" and others brands, very similar in shape but with different weight, and very different circular marks made by the spining tool. Some work correctly, while others sound not so good. It seems that there's ain't no hope to know by eyes if you have a nice "continental" or a stiffer one. At least for Gretsch, you can peep an eye inside without any doubt.

This is not a Continental cone and is not from the Shanghai network of resonator guitar makers. It is from Korea and is really not a good cone.
