Never had one, but thinking of fitting an old archtop with one for a 'jazz noise' sound. Any views, including on jazz pick-ups in general? And anyone want to off load one? (size would be a factor too - needs to be about 1.5cm high, and fix directly onto the surface). Cheers TT

I fitted a lollar goldfoil to complete the Golden theme, how does it sound, to be honest I rarely plug in so it is a little redundant, however it looks the part!!! Lee

I also would like to know about those pickups; never played them. Regarding pickups for archtops I love P90s, cause with the volume down they are good for swing but when you open them up...they growl! I have a Gibson 1957 ES125 that I love with a single P90, and a newish archtop with two of them. Frank

If size is a factor, then old gold foils are great, they would fit loads of guitars without cutting into the body. There are some pickups out there calling themselves Goldfoil but are in fact P90 and Strat pickups with a bit of foil stuck on. I bought a couple a few while ago, they are neatly made and not expensive ,but have little to do with the originals. Pete

This player had noticed an eccentricity with gold foil pickups which might be of interest. I have dearmond goldfoils on my electric bobkats and I found the interaction when I tried to adjust them with a with a distortion pedal different than what I expected, certainly different than a humbucker, but they worked well with a reverb pedal.
