I have a chance to buy an early model Resolectric similar to this model. I have seen some videos demonstrating both pickups, never saw or heard one. Does it have any acoustic sound?

Fred, I made a big mistake a few years ago and swapped a Jazz Blues for an early one of these which was fitted with a P90.
Big mistake! I bought with my eyes, not with my ears or limbs.
It looked great, just like an adult 1133 and was very well made, the MOTS pickguard was substantial and of high quality.
However, played sitting down it slipped all over the place - standing up was OKish. Good maple neck but a bit on the narrow side.
Soundwise, it was just what you would expect from a P90 equipped solid guitar so I fitted a Highlander and blend control.
OK, with the Highlander on its own it sounded a bit resoie and thin but bring in the P90 and it was back to where it came from.
Tried it a couple of times at open mic/jams then got shot of it pretty quickly and put the money in the bank.
IMO - these guitars are neither fish nor fowl - probably designed for young rockers to look good with on stage rather than what they sound like.

Well I just got back from doing the deal on the corner of 55th St and 1st Ave NYC. Was a nice guy with a British accent (he even said Cheers!! In one of our messages). Could not turn it down despite the wise words from a fellow bassist...something about bass players needing fancy guitars for some reason... It seems that I lucked into a special model...its a 1993 Resolectric 2...only about 80 made according to Gruhn/others...so me, Kenny Wayne Shepard, 78 other geezers, P.D. former club member...

Here's mine; did the copper work/ scratch plate one winter. Came with a painted steel cover plate. P90 sounds great, piezo sucks.

Hi there !
The piezo is a Highlander IP-1X pickup, is it not ?
Sure, it might sound terrible through an electric guitar amp but should sound fantastic though an acoustic guitar amp or PA system

I dont know what piezo pickup is in my Resolectric 2. Have not yet plugged into an amp. I read that the lipstick pickup is a Chandler. It does have a sweet, if banjoey resophonic tone...

Nothing banjo-ish about my 1133. It is a full sounding resophonic guitar. Back in the 80s when I first got it I used to gig and record with it, without any pickups.

Might have to hunt down a Highlander for it...but I'm happy with only the P90.

The Resolectric 2 has a solid wood body with a solid back, not a screen like the 1133, so the resophonic tone is not as airy/open. I recall when I had an 1133 the tone was fine...a bit harsh to me...but usable. The Resolectric 2 seems to have a standard cone, biscuit and coverplate, and has some depth and reverberation, but has no bass. Not plinky, but, if my mom (who knew nothing about guitars and music) was still around, she would say, oh, you got another banjo?...
