Hi TexasSlider
Welcome to our forum.
The guitars sold by Delta in Brazil are not necessarily from the same factory as Republic, but they are definitely generic Shanghai-built instruments branded with the Delta logo.
The fiddle edge copy does look good from a distance, but closer examination a while ago showed me it is quite crudely handbuilt and hand-beaten into shape and I can only assume there are no more than one or two of them. If you look at the top of the guitar there is no proper shaping to the area around the soundholes and the crosses are flat, rather than properly shaped as they should be. The rolled edge is way too big and could be uncomfortable to play sitting down. The coverplate, which also looks far eastern, only has two rows of holes in each sunrise. The neck and fretboard appear to be a Shanghai build, but I can't be sure of that. It does join at fret 13.5, but doesn't seem to fit that well. It looks like a very good attempt by an enthusiast at building a one-off instrument, but not something that could be a marketable product.
I hope that is helpful.

They sound acceptable for a budget reso. $64K question is what do they cost?

The only other company that I have seen that makes a fiddle edge is ironically also called Delta but based in the UK: www.deltaresonatorguitars.co.uk/fiddle_edge.htmIt’s worth noting though that this is made of carbon fibre and not metal. I did try one at blues week years ago and it was awesome though. All the best David

John Alderson "Delta Resonator Guitars" has made a fiddle edge Dobro and he has also made carbon fibre guitars, but not a carbon fibre fiddle edge. That instrument is made of wood. It is a perfect replica, but it has a wood body. Dave Redfern has a British racing green Delta fiddle edge. The carbon fibre "Dark Art" guitars are very good 14 fret single cone National-style guitars. John took over the carbon fibre thing from Alan Timmins via Mark Makin a few years ago. Carbon fibre is an interesting material for resophonic guitars, but so difficult and dangerous to work with. I have one of Alan's original "F1" carbon fibre guitars, a triplate that he made for me in 1994. Alan made two or three carbon fibre triplates, here are photos of Mike Cooper's one. Mine is the same, but I can't lay my hands on any photos right now. Shine On Michael

You wouldn't really need to play it, you could just look at it all day! Beautiful.

Yeah, but Bonzo, does it have the range of sounds between a Cosworth V8 and a Ferrari V12 at full chat, I wonder?

Sadly no, they are much quieter, as they only have 3 cylinders Pete I also have seen a Delta (the British one) fiddle edge lookalike, nicely made though only a copy externally. The original model was put together like a tin can, with a ‘rolled’ edge rather than a soldered join. This make it a very different job to manufacture.

Sounded good though 😁 All the best David
