My palm tends to stick to neck on my 1932 Duolian when I play. I actually love the feel of the unfinished neck on my reliced Telecaster but getting a similar Finish on a vintage Duolian is not I guess very advisable in terms of maintaining its original condition and value. So any advice appreciated on curing my sticky neck? Cheers

Talcum powder. (I should know--I'm always sticking my neck out).

It’s possible that at sometime a silicon polish was used on your neck. Silicon can give a sticky finish and should never be used. Try the talc then some good quality guitar polish. Pete Anyone have a better way to remove it?

Cheers I assume I just sprinkle the talc on the back of the neck but then what? Do I leave it on for a while? Do I wipe it off with a cloth?

Pete Anyone have a better way to remove it? I would be interested if anyone has a method to remove silicone from an instrument. I have a ukulele that I polished up with autoglym, it worked really well but I want to remove some of the finish now. The autoglym I used is a silicone based product. The autoglym is a silicone based product, so

You rub it into the palm of your left hand inc. between thumb and forefinger assuming you're right handed. If this works which it will I wouldn't try removing any polish without being sure of what you're doing.

I think you need to figure out why you are developing the stickiness...how long have you had the guitar and when did the stickiness begin? Does the neck look refinished? Does your palm stick to other parts of the guitar. Does this happen with other guitars?
For general gunkiness on a guitar, experts recommend to clean the back of the neck with naptha, which is ronson lighter fluid. Naptha will not remove or soften lacquer or varnish.

The best polish I know of for guitars is La Tromba Lacquer Polish. Nothing I have tried in 40+ years compares to it. www.thomann.de/gb/la_tromba_lackpolitur.htm?sid=7f4d35a69df28e105e0f287d358afb66Talcum powder is used by numerous musicians that need to remove moisture from their hands and their instruments. Also, alcohol hand sanitiser is good for removing moisture from hands. Too much moisture in one's hands, unless it is a very hot & humid environment, is caused by diet; caffeine, alcohol, fat, lack of vegetables, processed foods, are among the things that can trigger it. Sometimes spending too much time thinking about this stuff and not playing music can be a contributor to the problem. Shine On Michael.

Hi there !
So, La Tromba Lacquer polish can be used for both neck AND nickel-plated bodies ? Is it OK do Duco finishes on Duolians ?
Many thanks for the advice as I'm sure all would be interested to know.
Stay safe y'all - we might as well protect our guitars too !

I only wish I could !
Trying to get back into guitar playing since I broke my left wrist nearly 9 weeks ago. Managing to play slide on the 1st string - and surprisingly still got about 70% of my vibrato, but can't bend my fingers onto the fretboard yet - especially my forefinger (eg. onto the 3rd string 1st fret, for simple E chord).
Good time to polish my guitars, in the meantime ! Not that there's been much time with that, what with supervising my kids' home-schooling, and trying to work out how the hell I'll get back to work as a Dentist. Times like this, I REALLY want to play my guitar !!!!!

Thanks all for the replies It’s not my hand that’s the problem as I don’t feel the tackiness with any of my other guitars. For that reason, I’ll skip on the talc. And it definitely feels like some sort of build up of gunk on the neck. I’ve had the guitar about 15 months and it’s always felt like this only it’s accentuated more in warmer weather. Think I’ll give some naphtha a go and if that doesn’t do the trick try some of that polish. Cheers

Hi Snakey, glad to hear you're getting better and ready to come out of shutdown! I use la tromba on MM's recommendation and have had nothing but good results. Use it as a cleaner to remove any dreck (not bad eh) and then gently polish it up. I have used it on a Duco finished Duolian and it came up a treat. I applied a couple of coats and have a low lustre protective finish. MM is probably right about diet and stickiness, but I don't even want to think about life without a pie and a pint! Lol!
Best wishes to you all, John
