Rik, you're not wrong about the content and it has been bugging me all day, so I think I have removed all posts apart from the original one and a couple of other positive ones. I try not to go into those areas on the forum and I have broken my own rule. Having lost another friend today I have other things on my mind. Good job for straightening that out. Shine On Michael

I made a machined aluminium biscuit very similar to this over 35 years ago. I am an engineer and machinist by trade, although not practiced for donkeys years I still keep my hand in, make all my own and my friends slides etc. The design was almost identical. Yes, it sharpened up the attack and treble of the National cone. What a National needs like a hole in the head is precisely that. Abandoned and forgotten about until this. What I have been experimenting with is boxwood for the saddle insert, I believe it was what was originally used in early Nationals. Again, sharpened up the clarity and attack a bit, sounds great on my 1937 Trojan. I still prefer Maple for the rest of them though. My opinion, "Emperors new clothes"
