This looks interesting.... Willie and Annie Nelson are teaming up with Paul Simon and Edie Brickell for A Night for Austin, a television and livestream benefit to aid the Texas capital during COVID-19. Premiering on June 10th at 9 p.m. E.T., the two-hour benefit will feature performances by Nelson, Simon, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt and Boz Scaggs, Edie Brickell, Norah Jones, Black Pumas, Gary Clark Jr., Britt Daniel, Lukas Nelson, Charlie Sexton with Doyle Bramhall II and more. Ethan Hawke, Renée Zellweger, Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and others will also appear. The event is produced by Luck Productions and features a “virtual tip jar.” All proceeds will be donated to the Austin Community Foundation’s fund, which aids MusiCares Austin, HAMM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians), Southern Smoke Foundation, People Fund, Central Texas Food Bank, Six Square and Red River Cultural District. “We were incredibly honored and excited that Paul Simon and his team tapped Luck to produce this event and to benefit our own community of Austin,” Matt Bizer, co-founder of Luck Productions, said in a statement. “It means a lot for us to be able to support this community that has always inspired and provided for us and we are excited to be doing it alongside an amazing group of talented individuals, organizations, artists who themselves represent the unique fabric and soul that makes Austin our home.” Shine On Michael

My local slide and harmonica playing bluesman, Eddie Martin, is playing a live gig on YouTube, September 24 at 7pm (UK). Was lucky enough to catch him playing a solo gig in one of my local pubs last summer. He handed out a load of shakers so we could all join in, everyone had a great night! Looking forward to being able to see him perform in person again. Eddie Martin YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/user/blueseddieEddie Martin website: eddiemartin.com/From Eddie's newsletter: "So... after a break, I am ready to do another streaming show with top-quality technical back-up now sorted (though still all done by me!) So please join me between 7pm and 8pm on September 24th on my new YouTube channel Eddie Martin Music (please subscribe to it) for A LIVE STREAMING CONCERT. (PLEASE NOTE IT WILL BE ON YouTube ONLY! NOT FACEBOOK/SPOTIFY AGAIN) THANK YOU TO DONATORS!!! I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to those of you that have preordered the Birdcage Sessions album and have made donations to me during the streaming shows and in between. I am sorting a way to make a special thanks to you people and will get back to you on that."

John Miller, who many will know from his lessons on Furry Lewis, Bo Carter and many others or from the Weenie Campbell site, has a live concert streamed on youtube this Saturday. A bit late, midnight UK time as it's being streamed all the way across the atalantic, but I'm sure it'll be great.

Good news, I've learnt that John's concert will be available to watch afterwards too, no need to stay up late Saturday.

Going off at a slight tangent, a local venue (to me) “The Live Room” in Saltaire starts a series of real gigs this Sunday. The audience will be socially distanced, seated and table service only. They recon they can seat 60 under the regs so there will be 2 performances (6:30 and 8:30 pm) to make it financially viable for the artist. The 1st performance will also be live streamed for those who cannot make the live perf or have health concerns. A small step in the right direction mailchi.mp/theliveroom/its-on-we-kick-off-on-sunday-so-grab-your-ticket

Stay well, Harriet

Stay well, Harriet I agree entirely. It's already happening in a minority sport I follow and a combination of socially distanced live audience and paid subscription live streams will very likely be the saviour of theatre/opera/live gigs etc. now we know we're in for the long haul regarding covid.Just a case really of finding the ideal financial structure to cover costs and pay artists.(hope I'm not oversimplifying things)
