well done Davey! great that it's nice and playable.
I am well jealous now, I will have to spray my MM blues yellow with palm tree stencils now just to scratch that itch

I do specialist finishes. I could do a woodgrain effect, similar to the old Duolians.

Do you use nitrocellulose, Bonzo?

No, acrylics mostly coach. You have to be able to work the paints in order to get the desired effects.

Whilst re-stringing, took the lid off. It's had a very nice neck reset, spacers under the posts and a Beard cone and biscuit. All very well done. Restrung with medium weight strings and a 15 on the high string and it sounds huge. The bare patch on the body has been rusty at some point and has been attacked with emery cloth or wire wool. Can't do much about that I don't think. No secret messages inside which is a shame !

It all looks good and I am sure it is a great guitar. I do however, have reservations about the non spiralled Beard cone and nothing could convince me otherwise. It would perform as it should with a National Reso-Phonic, or a Continental cone. What about the rhinestones, are they going back on the headstock?

Hi Michael
I'm going to leave it as is for a while, although I may just buy a mixed bag of Rhinestones to play with. I only hope they don't start creeping over my clothes. The cone sounds good to my ears, I'll try and do a sound sample against my Style O with it's original cone. I'll include the Gretsch as well which appears to have a Continental cone.

If you change the cone, I'd be interested in the beard. TT

HI TT
the cone sounds really good to me, I also have a Beard cone in my squareneck and that sounds great. Maybe they've improved since Michael used one last. I don't use very heavy strings though, generally 12 to 52 and I beef up the 12 if I'm rattling on the frets. I tried to record some sound samples but my Mac was clipping the notes. I'll have a go with some other recording app.

Davey, as long as you like it, then my opinion shouldn't and doesn't come into it.
I will say that Beard Dobro cones and Beard National cones are a very different thing and their Dobro cones are the finest in the world.
What about the rhinestones? They're far more important!

Where do we get Continental cones, by the way ? The one in my Gretsch sounds superb. I may try a swap at the next string change just out of interest.
