They can definitely be muted down with playing style as well, with a bit of experience. They're a dynamic instrument and quiet/LOUD is very possible.

Did you buy it before playing it Sam? Brave decision! I did play it but in a large service station. But different when sitting at home in my small lounge.

I’m going to try some monel strings on it and also some lighter ones to see if that helps.
If not I’m sure I can resell it for what I paid for it (£2100). Might be listed on here fairly shortly :-)))

I had a similar experience when I tried to get a 5w tube amp to break up in my living room. Only 5w, tiny eh?

Hi Sampronian,
Something it's taken me a long time to adapt to is the dynamic range of my tricone. I've really needed to change my playing technique and get a lot more subtle, still working on it. Also, both the strings and what's on the end of your fingers make a massive difference to the tone - I reinforce my nails with resin and silk.
Stick with it for a while, it'll pay back.
Cheers, Rich

Have you ever played a National guitar before, or was trying it in a service station your first time? A drumkit in a large hall is not too loud, but in your lounge at home is a whole different thing. Having said that, all instruments can be played quietly. Shine On Michael

Might be listed on here fairly shortly :-))) Monel strings will not make any difference to volume or harmonics or reverb - a slightly warmer tone, perhaps. Resonators can go from whisper quiet to full on volume which will fill a busy bar and it's all down to the player having the technique to control them. If your supa dupa Style 0 is going to be sold I would suggest that, if you still want a resonator, you get yourself a Michael Messer Blues 28 wooden job. Much less brash sounding, a lot cheaper and probably the best on the market for what you seem to be looking for. Those on here who know me also know I have an "ear problem" and when it flairs up, the Triolian goes into its case and the MMBlues is used 100% of the time - fitted with Monels. Sorry for sounding a bit blunt but I'm only trying to help.

Yes that is genuine - MMB36001. I sold it to forum member, Kris, who in turn sold it to forum member, Ken. It's a perfect, almost brand new guitar and is an unbeatable deal if you want a pickup, but if you don't, it is cheaper to buy a new one direct from me. I can vouch for both Ken and Kris and I know that guitar is perfect.
Shine On Michael

I also played an m2 which sounded pretty loud also?
