I think this is very poor article which perpetuates the myth that the blues was born in the Delta and was very badly researched. The first guitar based blues records were not by Delta artists - Sylvester Weaver from Kentucky and Ed Andrews from Atlanta Georgia. The first popular records of this type were by Lemon Jefferson and Blind Blake both from areas many hundreds of miles from the delta. I could go on, but this type of article directs attention away from the reality of the history of the blues. There is no doubt that the influence of Mississippi players was instrumental in the birth of the Chicago blues, but that is partly due to the fact.that this was the major migration centre for blacks from this state.
It also doesn’t answer the question, “what is Delta blues?”.
