For whatever it's worth, I have a National M2 wood body biscuit, and it's really a versatile guitar, capable of everything from haunting fingerstyle to honking blues, with or without a slide. Also, I recently played an El Trovador in a local shop, and the deeper body gave it a rich, woody bass response that I really liked. I don't know if either is close to the '20s Triolian sound you're seeking, but both might be worth a look and listen.
