Until you get it in your hands who knows, feedback of seller is not perfect from what I can see but is it worth a punt if there is no import and not too much shipping who knows, 12 fret body and neck if nothing else, may cost a few $$$$ to make as you want it so buyer beware.... Lee

Hi there !
Cheap way to get your hands on a vintage National.
It looks to me that : 1. The guitar body has been refinished - with no finish in the coverplate. The sunburst effect is nor quite how National did it. Just too different to ever be original 2. The neck looks sanded (the corners of the headstock should be squarer) and refinished
What you can’t easily tell from the listing is :
1. Is the original cone included AND more importantly, what condition is it in. I’d suspect it’s gone or is beyond usable. 2. Neck angle - does it need a neck reset ? 3. Is the neck straight, banana’d, twisted ?
I’d highly suspect at least two of the above problems.
I always assume these could potentially be present in a vintage National I’m considering buying, needing more money spent on it to remedy. So, I have to decide if the guitar is cheap enough, and/or desirable enough to me to spend the extra if it proves I have to spend more to get the guitar playable.
I once bought a vintage National with non-original paint, and non-original (and warped) neck one it. Had a nice new neck made for it and stripped off the non-original paintwork and got it nickel-plated. Sure I was much happier with it but it didn’t increase it’s value beyond the purchase price and what I paid for it.
The guitar you are looking at does look nice - so that might be enough for you. It won’t fool most National enthusiasts though. If that doesn’t bother you though, go for it !

That poor old guitar has had lots of value zapped out of it. A brave guy who would buy that unseen.

This one has had some very un-professional work done to it! check the nut position!fingerboard has been changed and nut moved toward the bridge who knows what scale it is now and how the intonation is!

Looks like a headstock repair? The nut looks positioned OK to me. I reckon we're looking at the repair work and not a displaced nut? Infact I'm probably the least knowledgeable contributor on here regarding vintage Nationals but it all looks a bit distressed modern to me? Hmmm...

Here's how she turned out. All original, except the finish! Even managed to save the biscuit and bridge! Nationals are getting harder to find, so everything has to be considered lMO. Best wishes to you all, John

Thanks everyone for comments - lots to consider - I would prefer to have it in hand before buying; too bad there isn't some pics of the internals...the lure of the vintage National...

Don't even think about buying it resotonic. It's a pig in lipstick IMHO. Hold your fire and the right one will turn up.

Yes, I'd rather pay more for a 'more vintage' guitar. It does look like a head stock break; everything would have to be re-done & as snakehips says I'd probably spend more $ on it than should be spent!
