That is TRULY horrendous! And adding insult to injury by calling it a 'nice mod'. I'd love a nice fiddle edge Dobro, maybe one might turn up in the New Year!
Best wishes to you all, John

I would hazard a guess that the dearmond was fitted to cover the can opening which was done at a later date, modifications will limit the price so it puts the guitar within reach, I doubt it affects the overall construction unless they cut into the neck stick, who knows until you get it. Regards Lee

That would be a job for Mike Lewis. I reckon he relishes a challenge and would turn it around beautifully.

I have seen worse(in fact owned worse)I inherited a Regal fiddle edge from my friend Colin Brooks. It ha two holes drilled for tone an volume pots & a couple of holes in the side but the worst thing that had been done to it was the neck.It had a large headstock grafted on to it& It had the back of the neck carved and painted like a totem pole,it had Hank special in large letters up the neck & Rhine stones stuck all over it. I had a new neck made for it & it was my go to guitar until I gave up gigging. when I stopped using it I left it in the hands of leeophonic. i suspect It was the handy work of a chap called Les Western as he was well known for doping odd things to guitars and was a huge hank williams fa.

It’s only a tool. Show me a Stradivarius with no replaced or modded parts. From a players point, you could have done better than that pickup. But then again, I could have, too, on my mag pickupped Nationals... We’ll all be ragged for something we did in the next 50-100 years. Or sooner..prob sooner..
But yeah, I do see the point from a purist collector. Shame.

to my knowledge, McCartney, Lennon and Harrison had no child abuse charges ever leveled against them by the classic instruments in their possession.
oh yeah, magical mystery tour!!! wonder what those instruments are worth now? what about a psycerdilliac Rolls Royce?
Clapton's 1964 Gibson SG?
JJ Cale's frankenguit?
Stevie Ray's strat?
IE--- $$$ resale amount the only barometer, or crimes against nature?
we all make mistakes, or we aren't doing anything at all. cant cast stones, being a perp of guit abuse myself.
two stories to every side.

Good thoughts Mitch, but how many strats, SGs, Rickybasses etc have been made cf. M-32s? I'm not sure of the real answer as I'm a proud keeper of a repainted, reconed M-32 (original cone is here, too). An old injneerin' expression comes to mind "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". .....all typed by the man who refinished a 1950s Hofner Club 40 in Dulux gloss black in the late 1960s.
