Definitely like it but damage is mentioned. Is that finish lifting around the tailpiece?
Best wishes to you all, John
John, there is definitely something amiss around the tailpiece. There are two coverplate screws missing at that point too. It is really hard to see if the finish has lifted, or if something like a glue is all over that area. I also noticed the other coverplate screws are not screwed in properly.
The guitar looks generally pretty clean and although these are not great sounding instruments, not in any way as good as round neck 1133s, it is a really good price for what appears to be a clean guitar and an honest sale.
In Michaels last post there are images from Notecannons showing the round and square neck guitars, this is how I met colin at Notecannons by placing an ad in the Diamond advertiser yellow free ads paper, I think I sold him the square neck 1st, it was around the mid 90,s before computers and ebay had gotten a hold on everything. The other point to the story is if you look to the photo again the square neck one has a black section under the tailpiece, when I got it from Gruhns it needed repair as they are made from a neck through construction, routed through to take the cone and allow the back coverplate to sieve the sound, unfortunately after the routing there is a relatively small section on wood under the tailpiece, this is sandwiched between the two outer bouts. The problems manifest if the glue joints are starting to fail, has resisted 60/70 years of string pull or god forbid it is dropped on its arse and the endpin dislodges everything. As most are covered in plastic pearloid it is difficult to see what is going on, without that it is very fixable but it may mean surgery to the pearloid finish, hence the black stripe on the notecannons photo. So if you buy one be prepared for a little maintenance. Lee
