Hi everyone, Thank you for your patience & your support on this thread. I have been working with Debashish's UK tour manager, Paul Fisher, to get this off the ground and I am very pleased to announce that the slide guitar workshop date & details are now in place! Our original idea of doing this workshop as a trio with pedal steel guitarist, BJ Cole, is not possible as BJ will not be in the country on that date. Debashish Bhattacharya and Michael Messer Slide Guitar Workshop:TIME & PLACE: Sunday 6th July 2008 - from 4pm to 8pm The Council Chamber InterChange Studios Old Hampstead Town Hall Centre 213 Haverstock Hill London NW3 4QP 'The Council Chamber' at Old Hampstead Town Hall BOOKING & PAYMENT: Spaces are limited, so please book in advance. The price is - £50 pounds in advance. Or, subject to availability - £60 pounds on the day. Cheques to be made payable to Far Side Music Ltd and sent to: Far Side Music 80c Belsize Park Gardens London NW3 4NG Far Side Music (Paul Fisher): +44 - 020 - 7722 -3054 – email > paul@farsidemusic.com If you want to pay by credit card - you can call (we can also accept switch) or you can pay by credit card securely online. Make an order for a Debashish Bhattacharya CD, but write 'WORKSHOP' in the instructions section to let us know this is a payment for the workshop and not for a CD. Here's the page: www.farsidemusic.com/acatalog/DEBASHISH_BHATTACHARYA.htmlDINNER AFTERWARDS WITH DEBASHISH & MICHAEL: We will book a table or two at an Indian restaurant nearby for 8.30. Please let Paul at Far Side Music know in advance if you would like to join us for dinner (dinner at your own expense). We will provide a few snacks and some tea & coffee in the room during the workshop. PARKING & TRANSPORT: Parking nearby is possible on a Sunday. The nearest tube is Belsize Park on the Northern Line. 10 minutes to Kings Cross & Euston stations (for anyone coming from the north of England), or St Pancras International for anyone coming on the Eurostar. MORE INFORMATION: If anybody has any questions about this event, please leave a message on this thread and we will answer it as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting you Shine On Michael

Hi everyone,
I just received a note from Far Side Music saying that their website has a problem with credit card payments! So much for technology. If you wish to book a place in the next 24 hours or so, I would email or call Paul Fisher. Details are on my previous post.
Thanks,
Shine On Michael

Great news Michael! The only problem for me is that I probably will not be in the UK on this date. But I will know soon if I'll be here, and if I am I will surely come! I will update the thread on the French Slide forum about this workshop with these news. By the way, I met BJ Cole last Friday when I went to an excellent concert by him and multi-instrumentalist Nick Pynn at a great little venue here in Brighton! Fred

Hi Lee,
Great stuff! I am very much looking forward to too. Debashish is a truly masterful musician and a pleasure to spend time with.
Although Debashish's main style of playing is Indian classical music, he has studied many styles of slide guitar and his technique and knowledge are unsurpassed.
I think the blend our two styles of playing & teaching will be a very good mix, and will make an entertaining educational afternoon that everyone will enjoy and learn from.
----------------------------------------------------------
Hi Barry,
Slide players of all styles and levels are welcome to this very special event. It will not be a regular Messer-style workshop, or for that matter a regular Bhattacharya-style workshop. But I guarantee the afternoon will be both educational and very enjoyable.
If anyone has any questions about this event, please don't hesitate to drop me a line on this thread.
Shine On, Michael.

Hello Michael,
Just realised I shall be away in Yorkshire that week, leaving the day before. I shall of course play a few songs at Skipton Folk Club.
Perhaps some other time. Hope it goes very well.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the workshop yesterday. I know a few people (Bill, Tom, Lee & Pete) travelled a long way to be there. It was a wonderful way to spend four hours!
I believe Vivek is going to burn some CDs of the recording, so workshop participants can study what we learnt. Vivek, can you leave us a note about this. If CDs are a problem, perhaps we can download it from somewhere? I know Debashish mentioned that he had uploaded it to his iTunes page - can we downoad it from there?
Shine On Michael.

Thanks Michael and Debashish. Me and Tom had a great day - well worth the massive traffic jams on the M6 and M1. My head was about to explode by the end, so I'd love to have a CD or download of the workshop.

Hopefully we can get the recording from Vivek. Meanwhile here is something that Debashish wrote out for us. Thanks to Ben for emailing it over to me. Debashish did not put the sharps in, so I have added them. We think this is Raga Yaman, but perhaps Vivek or Debashish could confirm that? Shine On Michael.

Hi all, Great to hear that a great time was had! Gutted I couldn't come, as I was in Germany (but at least I played one gig in Berlin and one in Münster, and had a very good time over there, so it was a worthwhile trip ). Can't someone post some pics or video from the workshop? Fred
