The m/heads (well the bass side) look 1930s . The shape has a Brazilian feel and the c/plate could be from anywhere. This does not look like a ‘one off’, there must have been tooling made for the tail and cover , someone must have seen one before? Or some other guitars with the Dobro/National influenced tail. Pete

Fretboard binding, nicely shaped fretboard end, cool case...looks either excellent or cheap in a knock-off sort of way. I’d be torn. At least until someone here makes better observations..

Nice Looking guitar.
If it were a custom Dobro (USA) the coverplate Lyres would/should have better represented the Dobro Logo. It may well be a nice guitar but I think you may be barking up the wrong tree if you think there is more than a nod of the hat to the Doprea,s, that said some European Dobros are made to a higher standard than there American cousins.

That cover plate is certainly unique - I don’t recall seeing one like that before. The nut appears to be scalloped. The back seam appears to be separating.
I’ll try sharing this link to see if anyone else has more information or ideas.

Hello everybody
I've been following your contributions for years. What a pleasure to read in it. Sorry, but I do not speak English well (I'm from Switzerland). Therefore I write the request on 'deepl.com'.
I (56) bought the 'Mark Knopfler' Resonator Guitar (MK) six years ago in a spontaneous way.
After marvelling at it for about a year - and I still do - I said to myself: One day I will play music on it. Now five years have passed, I taught myself to play it (I use a 'Gretsch Honey Dipper' as a replacement for the MK) and learned a lot. And again and again I am drawn back to the sounds of resonator guitars. But it is still too little for the MK. I'll keep at it.
To this post:Promptly I had the luck and could buy this guitar. Hard to believe, it was still available. A toast to my existing spontaneity.
How it sounds? In my ears it sounds good. You can't play it too harshly. But I like the tonality. A real "Grande Dame".
To the question: Do any of you have more information about the guitar in the meantime? It effectively came from Russia. With the purchase everything worked out perfectly. But the seller cannot give me any information about the history of this guitar.
As long as you find answers. Then I thank you very much for your work.
All the best to you all

Sorry Sturzi, my fault, I thought you were talking about a Mark Knopfler type Style '0' that you had.
Stay safe, PD

I once had a Masterbuilt archtop guitar, made in Germany 1930's something. Great guitar, maybe this reso is from the same company? There was resonators built in Germany at that time apparently.

Fascinating!
Does it still exist, Michael?
Do you know anything about its construction, cones and all that stuff we chunter on about?
Are those decorations Germanic or Indian?
Is it actually a guitar made and decorated in India?
....and I wonder what would happen if you strolled out on stage clutching one of those resonators today?
I'm not being political here - I'm just interested as I was totally unaware until a couple of minutes ago.

Indeed, that lady with guitar I've seen before, that's the one i was thinking of. The Swastika one has gone under my reso-radar so far, what is that thing?! Germany made or a National modified? There are stories about Hitler wanting a ‘ people’s guitar’ just as the Volkswagen was the ‘people’s car’ . There maybe an old thread somewhere here? I seem to remember that a faux reso was the one he wanted. Pete
The Masterbuild could be an example? The second looks like a National cover on a non-National guitar, interesting but unpleasant.

WOW! Hitler and resonator guitars! That's something I never imagined I'd be reading about when I woke up this morning!
