This is a beautiful guitar and as far as I can tell it appears to be a 1928 transition period instrument, because anenome pattern Triolians from 1928 have Tricone style headstocks, whereas this one has a later production style National headstock. I would not say that is "unfortunate", I would say that it is quite the opposite. There are so few of these around that it could be the first, or one of the first Triolians with the new shape headstock?
The logo on the headstock is beautiful and the anemone flowers look like they're in good condition. The non-spiral cone is original and if there is a serial number, it will be written in pencil inside the guitar. Whoever did the coverplate did a pretty good job too.
Perhaps Mark Makin can verify my thoughts on this one?

Yes really in no way unfortunate you are right . John Needham in Pittsburgh Pa. did the cover plate . He also did the cover plate on the hula girl on the left that’s in the background.

Ahh....now I know that I have seen that guitar before. I remember when he refinished the coverplate. And it's Jack Needham, not John!

He also worked on the fretboard and the saddle if I'm right, as well as laser walded the tailpiece. How does it play now?

It plays excellent although I’ve wanted to put the MM strings on it to get thicker gauge on the first and second . Jack Needham is correct -duh -!

Hi Hawgwash,
I'm interested to see how the laser-welded taipiece repair looks. Any chance of posting a photo ? Would like to compare it to two I had repaired by laser-welding, at a Dental lab. Mine don't have any cavities now, ha ha !!
Thanks.

Hi Hawgwash,
Many thanks for those pictures. I think you can see, that Laser-welding is a good way of repairing broken tailieces with the minimum of aesthetic damage. The vintage nickel-plated brass tailpiece on my 1930 Style O, was laser-welded 2.5yrs ago and it is still holding strong as an ox, strung up with 13-56 strings ever since the repair.
