I'm afraid to say my MM Blues'28 sounds sweeter than that - unless it's the playing style?

I'm still confused about when Philips cross head screws first appeared. Seriously. I've no problem with replacement screws as such, but when an expensive high end instrument is marketed as completely original I think it matters. Is there a record of National using them? All the early Nationals I've seen, mine included have slot headed screws and I know from posts on this forum how difficult it is to match new ones to originals!
Best wishes to you all, John

I have played three Aragons and they all sound different. I agree that this one doesn't sound anything special in the recordings posted by the seller.
National Aragons are not blues slide guitars. They are designed for big band jazz and swing, and sound great for rhythm and jazz style soloing in standard tuning. They are very beautiful, they sound amazing and they are very large.

Just had a search to answer my own question! Philips screws were introduced in the 1930's so could have been used on Nationals. Don't want to hijack the thread but thought it might be of interest as the Aragon has them.
Best wishes to you all, John

I've had a quick shufti at Marks book where he notes that these giant 17" bodies may have been made by Kay. I have a Kay Jumbo with a similar 17" ladder braced deep body and it is a beast. Only problem is that it has a very narrow fingerboard... I'd love to try an Aragon.

ALL Aragon’s have Philips screws in the coverplate. Quite a lot of other models in the late 30s AB and C Chicago number series do as well.
I measured the neck on my Aragon and it is identical to a Fender Strat but slightly fatter behind so it really acts like a Jazz guitar. It is exactly the same body as the arch top National Sonora ( obviously also built by Kay).
The striking feature of the sound is a massive bass sound from the E and A strings

That is a different body shape to the Aragon. It like it is almost a National Havana
