Well, it isn't a Guitar but it's a fabulous instrument. It has a smaller cone than the modern National Mandolin I had & I really like the sound it makes, top and bottom end are pulled in a bit but it's still loud enough to hurt the Banjo player's ears. The finish is one of Steve's creations & simulates Bakelite & looks quite 3D in the daylight. It's sort of metallic gold over brown & gives a nod to Duco. Steve's a great Guy to meet and his workmanship is top class.

That is a very nice looking mandolin. I remember when Steve first made those mandolins with brass bodies.
Possibly the loudest acoustic stringed instrument I have ever been around was Mark Makin's 1930s brass bodied mandolin. We toured Italy in the early 90s as a four piece National guitar band "National Gallery", and Mark's mandolin would drown out all three Nationals. And those high notes up at the dusty end of the fretboard were excellent for killing mosquitos. Good times!

Hi there !
I have two Steve Evans Concert ukes, non reso, with that Bakelite National neck type look - on the back & sides of the body - but with wooden tops (one being Koa). The fibreglass body had that bakelite mottled appearance through the material. When I ordered a 5-string reso Tenor uke, a few years back, I fancied the whole uke, including coverplate, in that finish. He said he couldn’t do the coverplate like that as it’s aluminium - but he said he could try and perfect a close match paint finish on the coverplate. Wasn’t convinced how well that would match, so I went for a Walnut sunburst finish instead.
However, yours looks great. Is the coverplate metal, as the finish looks to match the rest of the body perfectly ?? !!!

I believe it's carbon fibre, but I'll ask next time I'm there. There's a rumour that he's making another Mandolin for me with some slight changes, mainly neck shape and colour.

That looks amazing Dave! Steve has worked on a couple of my guitars and his work is always faultless.

So beautiful!! In the late 1990’s I bought what Steve told me was the last metal bodied mandolin he made!! Unfortunately, I never learned to play mandolin and sold it! Ahhhh!!
