I'm having trouble tracking down a good case, i like the light weight hard foam pod cases. I do a lot of back carrying so i want strong strap fixings, i really don't like hand carrying. I'm looking over classical cases but with the hard foam i'm worrying some are not deep enough, plus the extra weight of a resonator is a strain on the straps, well any advice or help will be appreciated. Thanks anyone....

Pod cases are excellent. From around 1999 to 2010 I used two Pod cases for all UK touring and must have done thousands of trips with them.
There are actual "Pod" brand cases and there are numerous copies. The copies I use for my guitars are very good, but I don't keep them in stock to sell. My advice is get an actual Pod - and the classical is perfect for National guitars.

Regarding the use of "classical" sized cases, I bought a Hiscox case for my Yamaha classical guitar. Although my MMB fits as hinted, the neck support is incorrect which leads to a see-saw action and the padding arrangement leads to unwanted pressure on the strings which of course means the cone too. I don't know whether the Hiscox is representative of classical cases generally, but using one for a resonator might require a little adjustment here and there.

Some smart looking cases come up on search but then they got no back straps, i have been looking for a while, i 'can't ' (edit) find the Pod brand, which is the item i had in mind in the first place, plus the depth of some is an issue, i end up going for deluxe gig bags, but the weight of resonators really eats the back straps, so i end up getting a new one every 4 months or so. But what gets me is Nothing specific comes up for resonators, i suppose most want their high end guitar in a hard case, even so you still wouldn't want to drop it in a hard case for fear of the cone collapsing. maybe i just need a good strap system to add an existing pod case. Maybe theres not enough demand for resonator cases as folks stick with the hard case it comes in. But seems to me someone might look into it?.. PS last 'Deluxe' gig bag i got the outer covering on the strap area ripped away on second outing Ritter brand. Right thats that, now to apologise for saying resonators are a bit of a pain.

I have been through this conundrum in the past with Precision basses.
Gig bag on back = headstock clonking on doorways, stairwell ceilings etc. along with sore shoulders (apart from looking like a snail and banging into people and things if you turn round quickly).
Hardcase in hand = case banging into knees, door frames plus sore elbows and wrists. etc.
Solution = good quality Levy's gig bag carried in hand alleviates most of the above problems because it is light weight thus more manouverable.
Said Pbass has survived decades of gigging.
Best bet, IMHO, is Pod case held in hand - at least you can see the bu88er and move it around quickly when necessary.

If you fancy the gig bag route, look at Tribal Planet. They have shoulder straps and are way above expected average gig bag quality. I have a couple and the upmarket one is a match for just about anything else for domestic logistics. Bear in mind my remarks regarding downward forces on the strings with a reso. Any Leo-type can take it but tin cans will need the kind of care that's absent with shoulder straps.

Those are good gig bags. The ones I use are Reunion Blues RBX Electric Guitar Gig Bag. 12 fret National and National-style guitars just fit perfectly. I have toured with two of them for the past four years.
To stop any pressure on the strings I have glued two pads into them. I guess I should post some pics sometime.

I've been using the original RB Continental classical bag for my National Estralita Deluxe for about 9 years and have always wondered if it had to be so big. Best protection out there, but unwieldy to carry on your back for a long time. The RBX electric bag measurements seemed near perfect but threw me since my Estralita is 3-1/8" thick, plus a coverplate/handrest etc... and RB states their electric bag is 3 inches. Would love to see this in practice!

i did wonder, as MM stated he has the Electric bag, but as you say it states 3 or 3 1/2 inch depth in the electric bag, Im guessing a lot of guys only carry the guitar from car to near by venue, where as i trudge for miles sometimes also id hate to cough up and have the back straps give out, But they also do a 2 electric guitar bag and thats a lot of weight. P.S what outlet did you buy from ?

Hi, I got a Backaxe strap set up and have used this successfully with carrying my Hiscox case on my back. See their website backaxe.com . Cheers Mike.

I've bought guitars with cases before, knowing that I'll shift the guitar one day and keep the case. I've never bought a case, but I have 5 good ones now TT
