I am very happy to announce the details of this year's ACOUSTIC BLUES & ROOTS WEEKEND at Pocklington Arts Centre
Pocklington Arts Centre - 15, 16, 17 November
A weekend of guitar and slide guitar tuition - plus jam sessions, student performances, great company, and a special Saturday night concert.
This is a weekend for anyone interested in playing acoustic guitar and slide guitar in blues & roots styles. All levels are welcome. Acoustic instruments only.
Learn from two of the finest guitarists in the UK
Robbie McIntosh will be teaching guitar and slide guitar.
Robbie McIntosh is one of the finest guitarists of his, or any generation and has legendary status among his fellow musicians. “There’s Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Robbie McIntosh.” Chris Rea.
Robbie McIntosh’s career includes working with Sir Paul McCartney, The Pretenders, Sir Tom Jones, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Mark Knopfler and many more great artists. Robbie has played many of the world’s top festivals and venues. As a long-term member of The Pretenders, Robbie played at Live Aid in 1985 and on their hit record, Don’t Get Me Wrong. As well as playing guitar for so many of the world’s top artists, Robbie takes his own special blend of music on the road with the Robbie McIntosh Band, trio and duo. Robbie McIntosh recently played guitar on the movie soundtrack ‘Rocketman.’ Spending time with Robbie McIntosh in his classes and at the evening events will be a fantastic experience for everyone involved.
Michael Messer will be teaching slide guitar and lap steel guitar.
Michael Messer’s reputation as a virtuoso slide guitarist, singer and blues innovator, are well known. Throughout his thirty five year recording career, Michael’s music has remained individual and contemporary. His stunning slide guitar playing and superb vocals ooze authenticity and integrity, and his use of turntables in the Second Mind Band marked him as one of the trailblazers of the 21st century blues sound. Johnny Cash was a fan of Michael Messer's music and wrote the liner notes for his 1993 album ‘Rhythm Oil’. Michael's ‘King Guitar’ album reached number one in the US Living Blues chart, and ‘Second Mind’ won Best International Guitar Album of the Year. His current band, Michael Messer's Mitra, is once again breaking new ground playing an exhilarating fusion of rural blues & Hindustani classical music. Their highly acclaimed album, ‘Call of the Blues’ was iTunes #1 blues album, World Music Network #1 album, fRoots Playlist, Songlines Top of the World and Transglobal World Music chart #10. Michael Messer has released ten albums, toured worldwide, recorded numerous live radio/TV sessions and appeared in his own 'blues' episode of BBC TV show, Zingzillas. He also has successful lines of MM Guitars and MM Strings.
In addition and by request, Robbie & Michael will hold a class together on the subject of performance and playing in a duo.
The Saturday night concert will be a unique event - Robbie McIntosh & Michael Messer plus guests.
