Hi, I’m new to the forum and looking to buy an MM Resonater. my username is Neillyyoung, because I’m a big Neil Young fan and I used to be young once. ive more guitars, amps and pedals than you can shake a stick at, but there always a need for one more.
im looking to buy a resonator and leaning towards the Blues 28 as I spend most of my time playing a D28, D28-12 & 0028. So, the question is, if you had to buy only one, it would be a.............
i havent yet worked out out how to add a footer comment, if it’s possible, so. Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional.

Hi fella.
I've got both. In my view they are very different animals in terms of sound, weight, neck etc. "difference between a parlour and a dreadnought".
It might be worth checking if any members live near to have a shot, or go to Pocklington in November.
. . I'd keep the Lightening

Asking which resonator would you go for is akin to askin which Martin would you recommend, they all take you down different paths.
If it were me advising my younger self it would be a wood body reso as they are more versatile, but everything is subjective and dependant on the player and there own style and influences.

I've got a Blues 28 and it's a great guitar. It's a lot lighter than the Blues and Lightning. I'd suggest trying a few steel/brass bodied resonators to get an idea of the feel (naturally they won't be the same as the MM guitars, but it will give you an idea).
I had an MM Blues, which was great, but I sold it after major surgery. You'll be fine with any of the guitars.

All three are great! These days I have a MM Blues, steel body, and I think that's my favourite flavour. It's a pretty personal thing though, stevie2sticks gives good advice, try to catch up with another forum member to try out their guitar or go to MM's blues weekend in the autumn.

This isn't meant to dampen your ardour Neilly because it applies to all of us but no matter what you choose some days you'll love it and some days you'll want to throw it out the window. IMHO it's the Blues 28 if you want to fingerpick country blues and play some slide or the Lightning if you want to get deep down and dirty in the delta. (and remember Rev.Gary Davis advice--say no to the devil).

Hello Neillyyoung
Welcome to our forum and thanks to everyone for such supportive kind words.
If you send me an email to info @ michael messer . co . uk (without any spaces) we can talk and work out which is the right guitar for you.
Generally speaking, my advice with guitars is to go with your heart and if that is telling you to get an MMB28, well that is probably the one. Having said that, you would not be making a mistake with any of the models.

My heart went to all three, (2 Lightnings actually, one has a highlander pickup). I did trade on a 12 fret blues and kept the 14 fretter. My advice would be the metal guitars if you are a crash bang walloper (like me), or the 28 if you're more refained! Lol!
Best wishes to you all, John

Hey,
I recently did a few videos of a ‘28 and a Blues for a mate, in Vestapol for slide, Spanish for slide and picking, and standard for picking. I’d be happy to send them on to you if it helps? Or pop them up here. Let me know mate.
Best Lew

Hi, could anyone that owns a blues 28 let me know the dimensions of it please. I’m interested in the size of the body and the depth of the body.
