Hi Rick,
I have looked at the Pristine website and cannot see the Patton sample. Where is it?

Michael, it was via a posting on the Blindman's Blues forum - there's quite a discussion on the 'Charlie Patton' thread, I guess the link there is the only way to hear the sample,
best,
Rick

This might be of interest to some on the list - an audience wire (!) recording of a 1949 Woody & Marjorie Guthrie performance was unearthed in around 2000 & was gotten to the WG Foundation (run by Woody's daughter Nora). To the very limited extent to which I understand any of the technology involved, the recording was put through a series of processes very similar to what Pristine has done with RJ and, now, Tampa Red. (The use of the background electrical frequency as a reference point in both enterprises makes me think so.) In any event, the recording is now on disc & is the only publicly available live recording of Woody. And it's dandy, too. One thing that stood out for me - between songs at one point, Marjorie is speaking, & behind her you can quite clearly hear Woody noodling around & playing some real sharp blues licks on the old Gibson for a few secs. As I and doubtless many others have suspected, Guthrie's playing ability was likely a long way beyond the solid but simple 3-chord accompaniments that got committed to vinyl in the studio.
I understand & fully support the no-adverts rule for the forum & so won't go into further detail. I will say, however, that the WG Foundation is a nonprofit outfit & so far as I know, it's the only place you can acquire the set. I hope that didn't cross the line - if so, I apologize.

Hi ch, Thanks for the information. This is not advertizing, so could you post a link to the website? I love Woody Guthrie's music. Many of his songs are not three chords....they are two! He really knew how to be economical with his guitar playing and get great results. In addition; Could you post the information about Woody Guthrie & the WG Foundation on a new thread please, otherwise this RJ thread will become a WG thread Thanks, Shine On Michael
