I thought I'd write a little review of the Guitar that I purchased recently.
It was my guitar mad son's 21st birthday recently and I was looking for a guitar for him. I had decided a resonator was the best gift as he did not have one already! He does play slide on his acoustic and electric guitars but had no dedicated instrument for that purpose.
Now buying a guitar for someone is a risky business and I was somewhat anxious because, as you know it's a personal thing but hey. I play a bit too and like to think I know a good guitar when I come across one.
Having trawled the shops and played every resonator i could find I was thoroughly downcast with what was on offer. Some sounded alright but the intonation was awful if you chose to play it without a slide and others had what i can only describe as very poor finish quality.
I watched loads of reviews and asked around and then stumbled across MM Guitars. Now the whole process went against all my instincts.Well you know, you never buy a guitar when you have never seen one and not even played it but for some reason I decided that this was likely to be the best chance of getting decent resonator guitar for a reasonable price based on what I had read.
I managed to contact Michael through email and he was very helpful, knowledgeable and efficient.
I decide to buy a MM Blues 28 with a humbucker fitted. Having paid for the instrument it arrived the next day via courier. Very well packaged and tracked all the way so I knew it's progress so to speak.
Well on to the guitar itself...
Quality of finish is outstanding. Really could not fault it. It was not too heavy which was great but just as you would expect for a steel bodied guitar. It also came in a nice case which is very lightweight but sturdy. This was a nice surprise.
It came with instructions on how to look after it too.
Now I'm not a slide player so I passed it over to my son to play and see what he thought......
"Well it's just amazing"
High praise indeed but absolutely justified.
The guitar was perfectly set up as shown by the intonation check that I did on it and it sounds just like you'd expect it too. Beautiful!
So in short,if you are thinking of buying a resonator for yourself or for someone else then don't hesitate to buy an MM guitar. You will not be disappointed.
The whole experience was trouble free and guitar like this would cost you twice the price elsewhere.
Hope that helps anyone that is thinking about buying a Michael Messer guitar.
Best wishes
Iain
