Hello, I got a question about the Leewald reso's. I know it's former Amistar. Does anyone has any experience with the leewald reso's? I'm thinking about order the wooden tricone with the duo system. How is Leewald compared to National? I mean a National is a lot more expensive. is it worth pay 1000 euro's more for a M1 tricone without any pick-ups or sound system? Which will be an extra investment. I got bad experiences with reso's played in a band setting (lot's of feedback). most of the pick up's makes the reso sound more like an electric guitar and it loses the character of the reso. maybe the Leewald duo system is a solution? What is the best way to amplify a tricone without losing it's character? and maybe less feedback.
Thanks!!

Thanks Jon, your kind thought is much appreciated.
I am totally okay with people asking about and discussing any brand of resonator guitars. It only becomes advertising when the maker or company actually starts posting about their own guitars.
I am unable to comment because I have my own brand of guitars and anything I say that is not 100% positive about another brand of guitars currently being made, could be perceived the wrong way. Discussing vintage guitars is a whole different thing.

Shine On Michael I'm kind of with Jon on this, and have had a similar kind of reaction to other posts - sometimes new members aren't really aware of MM resonators and post pre-buy questions in the first section. I think the second section is what they probably should be posted in, the guitar discussion section. No PD its not Lee Harvey OS.... Welcome to the forum Ron ( if you survived the first post). I still maintain that this is an open forum and therefore it is perfectly acceptable for people to post questions about National Resophonic, Dobro, Fine Resophonic, Leewald, Amistar, Republic, Icarus, Paramount, Beltona, Johnson, Mule, Gretsch, Ozark, Donmo, Beeton, and any other brands that I haven't listed. There is a place for MM Guitars in Main Street and as long as it is not posted as advertising, then discussions and questions about all brands of guitars are perfectly acceptable.
I am very grateful for the care and protection, but that is what this forum is about and to over-police it would IMHO ruin it.

eeuhh.. I just wanted to ask a question. As you can read I had other questions in the topic and not only about the Leewald reso's. I read a lot in this forum and I read a lot about other brands in the past but maybe they were old topics before MM got his own brand which I didn't know. perhaps somebody has an answer on the question about the amplifying of reso's?

hmmm. looks interesting. and pretty cheap!! Is it comparable with the flatbucker? I have one of those. The sound is good but they make the reso sound to much like a elektric guitar if you ask me.

Hello Ron
Welcome to our forum.
We are a friendly and helpful group, but sometimes threads can go astray!
Your question is a difficult one for me to answer, but I can help you with your amplification question.
IMO the Duo System that you are asking about is not the answer to your problems. It will not successfully amplify a tricone. I would advise anyone amplifying a tricone to consider one of these three options, and in this order....
1 - Use a Shure SM57 microphone and learn to EQ your guitar to get the best out of it. 2 - Get a Highlander Magnophonic system fitted. It is very expensive, but it is also the best. 3 - Use both of the above - 70% Shure SM57 and 30% Highlander. This gives a miked sound with extra bollox from the pickup. 4 - Get a Sixtus resonator pickup. These are magnetic pickups that are designed for the purpose and in my opinion they are unbeatable for the money. The only reason they are cheap is because they are homemade and it is a part-time business.
Any kind of under-saddle pickup on a tricone will sound thin and horrible.
Before spending 2000 Euros on a guitar I think you need to do some more research. You do not seem to have enough information or knowledge on the subject.
Tricones are complex and incredible instruments, but unless they are built properly, they are just cool looking resonator guitars. I am not critisicing the Leewald, just suggesting that you do more research before buying.
I hope that is helpful
Best wishes
