A piece of history, and a mystery. In the 50's-60’s a guy called Cyril Proctor made pickups for jazzers in Leeds. He then went on to manufacture other parts in response to hobbyist demand and then his own range of lap steels called the Conchord.
All the single neck Conchords I have seen pictures of, and there are very few, are standard lap steels with slotted headstocks though he did box some of his twin-necks.
This is a Conchord single-neck set in a box using the same hardware as Cyril's larger twin-necks. Once you open the box the lid slides off to the side and you play the box. Because it is set in a box there is some resonance so you can play without needing to plug in to an amp if you are in a quiet room.
It's currently strung and tuned to EGACEG a non-standard Am7/C6 tuning passed down to me by forum member Pete1951. Its quite good as it gives you the major and relative minor all up the neck.
There is very little information about Cyril and his guitars on the web. I did contact Steve Phillips who worked with Cyril in the 60's but he can't remember anything specific.
